I think in its own way Psychocandy sounds more 80s than anything else. I wonder if Spanishbomb listens to this band. Didn't some famous person say something to the extent of "the jesus and mary chain are the 80s" or something? where did I hear that? I think SB should shut his face for all eternity if he doesn't know who this band is. Stupid 80s poseur.

i've been wondering the same thing. i know he dissed Ride, and i seem to remember something similar about them...i'm pretty sure he doesn't go for the whole wall of sound thing.

Yeah, I think they are a tad tedious. Though I do love 'I Hate Rock N Roll'.

I saw them YEAR AGO when I was like 18 at the Metro in Chicago. Pretty hard core...I was pumped to see them because I was in a bar and I was 18.

Psychocandy is one of the best albums of the 80's. A mix of loud feedback inspired punk and big, melodic guitar tunes. The JAMC managed to mix punk inspired guitar noise with the classic melodic pop sound of people like the Beach Boys and the Bryds.

At the time there were'nt that many good bands in the UK with a few noticable exceptions bunnymen, Smiths, the Cure. The JAMC had a sense of danger and real old fashioned rock and roll outrage - one of their gigs ended in a riot and Some Candy Talking was banned for alleged drug references. The JAMC created the same kind of reaction from the British press as the B Boys on their famous, infamous Def Jam tour with Run DMC.

Darklands is also a great album, if a little mellower and Automatic is also worth checking out.

I am not that familiar with their later work but the 21 singles collection would give a good overview of their work.

I remember having that album, and just listening to their single track "Just Like Honey" a few years back. Then they used it on the soundtrack of Lost in Translation..I was like the 80's are never going away!
