WASHINGTON, March 2 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Christian Coalition of America wholeheartedly supports the effort by Rep. Walter Jones, (R-N.C.), to pass his "Houses of Worship Free Speech Restoration Act", H.R. 235, during the 109th Congress.

Christian Coalition was represented at Rep. Jones' press conference today on Capitol Hill when he introduced his bill. Speakers included Senators Sam Brownback, (R-Kansas) and Tom Coburn, (R-Okla.), Rep. Joe Pitts, (R-Pa.), Chairman of the House Values Action Team and Congressman Mike Pence, (R-Ind.), Chairman of the House Republican Study Committee and a number of minority pastors who also support this commonsense bill.

The Houses of Worship Free Speech Restoration Act of 2005 amends the Internal Revenue Code to protect churches from losing their tax-exempt status because of the content, preparation, or presentation of any homily, sermon, teaching, dialectic, or other presentation made during religious services or gatherings. Rep. Jones' bill will permit church leaders to express personal views on political matters or elections during regular religious services without violating campaign finance laws, as long as such views are not disseminated beyond the members and guests assembled at such services.

The President of Christian Coalition of America, Roberta Combs said, "It is long past due for Congress to pass a law giving clergy the freedom to educate their congregations on the issues such as protecting traditional marriage and to inform them as to how their elected officials vote on such issues. Christian Coalition commends Congressman Walter Jones for his determination to pass critically-needed legislation."

The Christian Coalition of America is America's largest Christian grassroots organization with more than 2 million supporters. The organization's website may be referenced at: http://www.cc.org

Mistaken Identity

A man was being tailgated by a stressed-out woman on a busy boulevard. Suddenly the light turned yellow. Just in front him was a crosswalk, so he did the right thing--he stopped at the crosswalk even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection.
The tailgating woman hit the roof and the horn. She screamed because she had missed her chance to get through the intersection. As she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her window. She looked up into the face of a very serious police officer. The officer ordered her to exit her car with her hands up. He took her to the police station where she was searched, fingerprinted, photographed, and placed in a cell.

After a couple of hours, however, a policeman approached the cell door and opened it. He escorted her back to the booking desk where the arresting officer was waiting with her personal effects. As he handed her possessions to her, he said, "I'm very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, flipping off the guy in front of you, and cussing a blue streak at him. I noted your "Choose Life" license plate holder, the "What Would Jesus Do" bumper sticker, the "Follow Me to Sunday School" bumper sticker and the chrome-plated Christian fish emblem on the trunk.

Naturally, I assumed you were driving a stolen car."

Jesus would vote for the man or woman, not the party, but then if Jesus were here he'd set up the government himself from market systems to car emission standards..

I doubt that Jesus would vote. If you look through the Bible (vs. just guessing what he'd do) he stayed pretty uninvolved in political affairs. Lots of Jewish people were expecting him to try to overthrow the Roman government.

I don't think Jesus ever really supported one type of government or another (explicitly) but he did say, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's.” - in response to people asking whether they should pay their taxes.

All in all - I think it's just kind of an absurd debate. Jesus didn't put so much value on worldly life. I'm not saying that absolves us of civic responsibility, just looking at what Jesus did in his life.
