so every man and his dog has done a nirvana cover. which is your favourite? (or which one do you hate the least?)
personally, i really enjoy cibo matto's version of "about a girl" it's very classy, and has a really smooth groove to it.
your turn!
wierd, I've not herd anyone do a nirvana cover, but I'm sure half of my favorite artists have done one.
I do like Nirvana's cover of Devo's "Turnaround", though. (y)

The only one I've ever heard was the Tori Amos cover of Teen Spirit. It was kinda meh, but I guess I'll have to go with that one because it is, by default, my favorite.

beacuse it's tori amos or because it's smells like teen spirit?
you know what I would like to hear? Ani DiFranco doing a cover of Heart Shaped Box. I don't know why, but it would be nice to hear.

I spit on Nirvana and anyone who emulates their grungy garbage. Death to them, and Death to Israel.
Now the Rolling Stones... there's a band worth covering.

Same here. I'm not aware of any Nirvana covers except for Tori Amos. And I haven't heard that rendition.
Oh wait, wait... I lie. Does the use of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" count in "Moulin Rouge"? I thought that was cool.

I like Tori, and "Teen Spirit" is a good song, but it's really over played. Her cover of it just didn't work for me though. Just not the kind of song she should cover.

This is sort of off the thread topic, so sorry...but while you're speaking of songs Tori shouldn't cover, have you heard her version of Eminem's Bonnie and Clyde??? It is so weird. She just talks all the way through it...I guess that's her "rapping." And it's all about him basically murdering his wife and stuff so it's just disturbing hearing her speak those words.
That was a cover I just don't understand. In fact, that whole album of covers she did (Strange Little Girls) was not very good (except the song Strange Little Girls). And I LOVE Tori, so for me to say that, it's gotta be pretty bad.
Back to the thread topic...I do like Tori's cover of Smells Like Teen Spirt. But come to think of it, it may be the only Nirvana cover I've really heard too.

Oh shit! I saw the title of this thread and Cibo Matto immediately popped into my head. Their version of About a Girl is fucking brilliant!
i was going to quote the first post but then you said exactly what i would have said. cibo matto is my favorite band. when they do covers, they make the songs better. check their version of welcome to the jungle.
and hey Sandinista!, cibo matto covered the stones too. check their version of "sing this song all together." god, cibo matto is the best band.

It's a good movie, and the use of "Teen Spirit" was very unexpected and clever. :)

It was near the beginning of the movie as we're entering the Moulin Rouge club. First they were playing the Fatboy Slim stuff and then they broke out into a chorus of "Teen Spirit."
The movie had a pretty cool soundtrack actually. Well, except for the "Lady Marmalade" song, but even then that song wasn't too horrid.
