What are some local bands out there that you love but feel they haven't gotten their deserved national/international acclaim?

Well here's the chance for your regional bands to get known past your own city. Just post some links to a few local artists and we'll see if anyone here would enjoy them.

For the Edmonton area, I hereby anoint:

Plainsay (http://www.plainsay.com) - Good Coldplay/Jeff Buckley-esque rock
Mark Birtles Project (http://www.markbirtlesproject.com) - Some good garage type stuff akin to The Hives

As kick-ass groups.

Oh yes and RIP to:

The Operators *780* ( http://www.operators780.com/ ) - Make some kick-ass punk/reggae/dub/ska. Currently on hiatus or perhaps disbanded all together. Their future is in limbo. But they still rocked it.

I'm obsessed with the Evan Goodrow Band (www.evangoodrow.com). They are based out of Boston but occasionally play shows in other areas of the USA. I saw them 2 weeks ago down on Long Island. The boys are super talented and have played with the likes of BB King and GE Smith. Their music genre is funk/jazz/blues. I'm constantly plugging my boys.

I think I've heard of them. Not their music, but that album cover of "The Vertigo of Bliss" looks really familiar.

Yes. But for all intensive purposes, this thread is for talking about bands who have not made it into the media's spotlights. Think of the good local bands in your town who are only playing bar shows, but you see some promise emerging from them and you want the rest of the world to notice.

That's what I'm aiming for in this thread. :)

I thought we were meant to plug bands that other people hadn't heard off

I'd like to plug Captain Murphy (http://www.captainmurphy.se/), they play 70's rock'n'roll, quite like Kings of Leon, but with much more oomph, and a great guitarist with sideburns to make Mugo Jerry blush. They've released one album and a handfull of singles. I've seen them live 7 times the last 12 months, pity the last two gigs were cancelled, it could've been more ;) . And their website is gonna go through a big facelift pretty soon, this one isn't up to date at all. Gigpics are couple of years old and there's several singles missing from the discography.

Yeah, they were awesome. They were only able to drop one EP and one album, but it was some of the strongest stuff I've heard in the punky reggae department in years. Here's one of their louder songs... Indecision (http://operators780.com/media/02%20Indecision.mp3)

I also really like The Wolfnote - they're mathy scream-along post-hardcore, but are pretty engaging rather than difficult like a lot of the bands in that genre are. One of my favorite songs: You can kill a revolutionary, but you can't kill a revolution (http://blackboxrecordings.net/v12/kill.mp3)

I love dogs die in hot cars (y)

But local bands from my area...well heres some bands that have streaming audio you can check out:

Ground Components:
They are from melbourne. Their cousin is a friend of mine. They play awesome music with a really simplistic indie rock style. And they are just really good blokes. Something like rolling stones mixed with the clash mixed with bob dylan.... i dunno its the type of band that even spanishbomb/sandinista might like ;) They have supported: Spoon, Teenage Fanclub, J Mascis, M Ward, My Morning Jacket, Powderfinger, Spiderbait and The Sleepy Jackson and played big day out, merideth (twice), st kilda festival and have toured america. They are basically an established live band but aren't widely recognised. They are playing a gig this friday with The Black Keys.
Check out their song "it all catches up with you (http://www.amo.org.au/release.asp?id=6765)" here, or "sticks and stones" (http://www.amo.org.au/release.asp?id=5819) here. Their website is here! (www.groundcomponents.com)

The Redsunband:
The other local band i'm into at the moment. You can view their audio or video at their website here (www.theredsunband.com). Check out the audio/video's for "sleep forever" and "devil song"...poor video quality, but you get a general impression :)

And bands like Dallas Crane (www.dallascrane.com) and Rocket Science (http://www.rocketsciencerock.com/) but they are already famous.

I hope you guys check these bands out because you are unlikely to hear them in America with all the bullshit bands Australia sends over to you guys.

EDIT: Ohh yeah and my friends have a band called Oritica's mind but they are really new and only have 5 track demo and i dont think they've played a gig yet. But they are professional musicians so they are already far supreme in musical talent to most bands, just need some better tunes.

they got signed to an indie label [suicide club] a couple weeks ago, and by this time next year, they'll have toured europe.

we have a friend who was an intern on "pimp my ride" this summer, and they want him to work for mtv when he gets out of college in a couple months, so to help build a portfolio, he filmed.....
