Anything by Bret Easton Ellis

and

Chuck Palanhiuk

For those who do not know: Chuck Palanhiuk wrote "Fight Club", which was made into the movie of the same name (directed by David Fincher of "Seven" fame), and also wrote my personal favorite: "Survivor". In my opinion, he is the voice of our (thirty-forty years old) generation...Depravity elevated to an art form.

I want him to be my Secret Santa. It is my fondest wish. New book is in progress, and a friend heard him read an excerpt at a book signing for Diary. Said he almost passed out and others were turning green...

I bought this recently and will read it soon.

Oh yeah,"Catcher in the Rye" is a strange trip, not very big on it as it was required high skool reading

It's my favourite book. Being forced to read anything usually takes the fun out of it though.

It is a really ugly type of film....that you need only watch once if at all, not unlike Kids,Monster,Boy's Don't Cry,American History X,Romper Stomper and so on....better off heading down to Coronation St for a pint at the Rovers Return!

Hi,"Incident at Oglala" is actually a documentary film about Pine Ridge, the American Indian Movement,Leonard Peltier and the tragedy that the F.B.I instigated oh so close to wounded knee.
It's narrated by Robert Redford and the frustration he had distributing the small independant movie is what led him to founding the "Sundance" film festival.
Check it out if ya can!
Another awesome American aboriginal author is Sherman Alexie his books "Lone Ranger and Tonto,Fistfight in Heaven" (made into a feature film Smoke Signals) and "The Business of Fancy Dancing" are great reads! (y)

I have not read these, but I will look for them. Saw "Trainspotting", the movie and loved it, but not as much as the earlier film by the same director: "Shallow Grave". Also loved "28 Days Later", the movie. As far as books go, I would also recommend "The Corrections" by Jonathan Franzen and "The Fermata" by Nicholson Baker. Along with "Survivor" by Palanhuik, that completes my top-three-of-all-time list.

Nice,I have "Survivor" on hold at my local library but I'm 7th in line, must be good! "Shallow Grave" was great! Top 3 of all time thats tough! My faves are always changing but "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel is probably the #1 piece of fiction I've come across in 2005 early as it is... (y)

Jack Duckworth is alive and well, admittedly I don't watch it as much as I used too. My heyday was with Jim McDonald "What about you MC Moot?"

"Flaming Nora" means "bloody hell"

Other favourite Nothernisms are:
"Not on your nelly"
"Will he eckers like"
"I'll go to the foot of our stairs"
"Were you born in a barn?"

Me too, last I saw Jim had made a prison break! The episodes run on Sunday's just in time for brunch so we usually get up and make a "full english"
you know of course, sausages, beans, toast, eggs, heart stopping, artery hardening goodness..."I'll go to the foot of our stairs"...whats that one mean?

Shaun of the Dead is amazing "Don't scratch it!" Bit too romance for my tastes but there you are. Have you seen any of the TV series Space, it's by the same team and it's the same sorta thing:

"How was your trip?"
"Great, I don't know where to start"
"Near the end"

Full English breakfasts. Magic. "I'll go to the foot of our stairs" it means well, well, it means well, well it means a cross of "bugger me" and "you could have knocked me down with a feather"

The Office is a bunch of old shite (controversial) and Phoeniox Nights shits all over it. In a very fine day I watched 10 episodes of Spaced, you need to see the paintball episode in particular, another of my fave lines: "How can you say I'm not emotional, I cried at the end of Terminator 2".

This isn't a Beastie Book shout out but I figured I'd share it anyhow.

I just started Conciousness Explained by Daniel Dennett yesterday. I was warned about this book by the same friend who told me to read it. She in turn was warned by her professor. Never Ending Story?

For crying out loud, Dennet gives you a warning 20 pages into the book. 'Demystifying' is the word he chooses to use. I'm into metaphysical things. So I guess that could help balance out a bit of concrete ( ) science.
