I got the email from his website and got so excited -- thinking he'd actually scheduled a show here -- but it's on Monday and IN ENGLAND! Damn!

From NME (http://www.nme.com/news/111707.htm);

BECK played a short-notice, intimate show in LONDON last night (March 14).

Having only announced the Islington Carling Academy gig via NME.COM on Friday (March 11), the venue sold out in just 45 minutes, creating a real buzz of expectation as Beck used the occasion to preview tracks from new album ‘Guero’.

Playing for just over an hour, Beck and his new band performed a combination of tracks from the new album including ‘Girl’ and new single‘E-Pro’ along with older favourites including ‘Where It’s At’, although that didn’t satisfy everyone.

After repeated calls from an audience member “to play some old stuff”, Beck eventually responded by telling the punter to “shut up”, winning loud applause from the rest of the crowd.

Speaking to NME.COM after the show, Beck admitted that he enjoyed playing smaller venues and the banter that went with it.

“These days I like the smaller shows, I’m enjoying that,” he said. “The energy gets very focalised and it’s interesting. It’s more conversational in a way – you can hear what the audience are saying. I usually talk back a bit more but I’m a bit punch- drunk from jetlag.”

The songs played were:

’Black Tambourine’
’Devil’s Haircut’
’Scarecrow’
’We Dance Alone’
’Guero’
‘Girl’
’Knock You Out’
’Missing’
’Go It Alone’
’Broken’
’Where It’s At’
‘Hell Yes’
’Rental Car’
’Emergency Exit’
’E-Pro’
’Get Real Paid’

’Guero’ is released in the UK on March 28.
