Iraqi general shot dead by US troops at checkpoint west of Ramadi 3/15/2005
Â*
RAMADI, Iraq - The deputy commander of the Iraqi army in western Al-Anbar province was shot dead by US troops at a checkpoint Tuesday night, a police officer said.
"The US forces opened fire at 8:00 pm (1700 GMT) on Brigadier General Ismail Swayed al-Obeid, who had left his base in Baghdadi to head home," police Captain Amin al-Hitti said.
"They spotted him on the road after the curfew, which goes into effect at 6 pm," the officer said in Baghdadi, 185 kilometres (142 miles) west of the capital.
No immediate reaction was available from the US military.
US forces have struggled to build up Iraqi security forces in Al-Anbar, where the country's insurgency is at its strongest, and many police and national guard units are suspected of having been infiltrated by rebels.

So you guys think that our country is capable of committing some horrible transgressions such as the war itself, but it's inconceivable to have people killed that they don't wish to have around anymore in a war zone? Ever heard of Paul Wellstone?

Morally and physically, I'm sure that "they" are perfectly capable of doing something like this. But without proof, there's no reason to assume that this is any different than the many other instances of fratricide and unnecessary use of force (http://www.nytimes.com/2005/03/07/international/middleeast/07patrols.html?ex=1111122000&en=0bc807306243d901&ei=5070&oref=).
You jump to conclusions far too often, D Raay.

Actually, I always jump to conclusions. Just when the US is involved. Because I see it as being statiscally more likely that it's a conspiracy.

I greatly respect your opinions on such matters Funkaloyd...Let me just say in case you or others didn't know; I work in Washington and have friends in some inner circles. You wouldn't believe the stuff I know that I will not share on some message board.

As does speeding, apparently. Draconian.

The dude was a General, he knew what the curfew policy is and he knew why the curfew policy was in place. The US military has denied these allegations anyway... isn't it more probably that the General was killed by terrorists in the country? (safety is also one of the reasons that the curfew is in place). But I guess that makes too much sense.

You're right, Capone. Thanks to George Bush and the United States military, Iraq is such a shithole that it's perfectly likely that terrorists killed the general. God knows they knock off government officials, aid workers, foreign employees, police officers, judges, Iraqi soldiers, and so on all the time. Thanks for pointing that out.

Because Iraq was SUCH a better place before (y) Oh THAT'S RIGHT. You expect that kind of thing from dictatorships so it's alright, as long as the US doesn't get involved. Remember re-building a country doesn't happen over night.
