Tibet as part of China (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2005/03/15/wdalai15.xml&sSheet=/news/2005/03/15/ixworld.html)
Or if you're lazy, here's a bit:
"But the interview suggests that the Dalai Lama might be prepared to accept this. "This is the message I wish to deliver to China," he said. "I am not in favour of separation. Tibet is a part of the People's Republic of China. It is an autonomous region of the People's Republic of China. Tibetan culture and Buddhism are part of Chinese culture."
In contrast to many critics, he also welcomed the economic development that being part of China could bring, including the controversial railway being built to link Lhasa, Tibet's capital, to the rest of the country."
The whole article suggests that the younger Tibetans are growing weary of the current non-violent approach to resolving the conflict. That is the part that got me. Do they have a better idea? Or do they just want to completely surrender their identity to the intrusive Chinese government? Seriously, WTF?

Thanks for posting the latest...! I admire your character and dedication... Word up.
Having to do what's "economically" best for the region by giving in... If that's a valid perspective or not... There's got to be other ways... Fuck the Chinese Government. I've been up to date with signing/ sending all the SFT letters to their various chosen recipients in office... And now they are cycling in new board directors... new initiative and motivation... Hopefully that will increase the voice and wherewithal... What benign companies here could talk with the Dali Lama and set up shop in Tibet to increase production and market I wonder?!! I have to give it up to The D.L. though... and I'm sure that future generations of Tibetans will not only never forget the historic and ongoing struggle, but reap it's benefits one day... and will ALWAYS be true to themselves in a matter of precept. They may not be as "advanced" as the modernized world, and for good reason perhaps... but their beliefs and culture are timeless and proven to "hold more pure water"... I wish someone would take the appropriate tools/ weapons to the stage and put up a real fight for them... us, it all!!! Wish we could fix the Chinese government for them if only our damn world governments didn't all have their hands in the same corrupted honey comb as the Chinese, robbing the world's commonwealth and it's true worker B's blind. I'll stop here for now. Where's Borne at? Peace

Here's good article about this issue. It's kind of long but well worth it.
Go read it here. (http://xtramsn.co.nz/news/0,,11965-4216639,00.html)
Once again here's a tidbit to spark your interest:
"For Beijing, its policy of encouraging Han Chinese migration and hoping to use increased wealth to defuse disaffection among Tibetans may be backfiring.
"Contrary to expectations, there are indications that the rapid economic expansion is ... fostering a heightened sense of ethnic cleavage and dispossession among Tibetans," U.S.-based Tibet scholars Tashi Rabgey and Tseten Wangchuk Sharlho wrote.
Economic growth has "widened social inequality throughout the region and increased the potential basis for ethnic discontent," they said in a recent paper. Increased prosperity has also created an educated class of Chinese-speaking Tibetans able to articulate their views to a wider audience.
The Dalai Lama also is key to uniting those inside Tibet and those outside, among them the Tibetan Youth Congress, which takes a much harder line on Tibetan independence."

I think the Dalai Lama really should be in Tibet... If need be, have SFC escort him and surround him at all times. I don't like to give substance to the whole conflict... I mean, the Tibetan religion or state at this point seems contingent upon oppression. Of course it has revealed/ showed the world the reverence of a higher consciousness... timeless patience, understanding, spirit in beliefs... though has been made to give up so much in terms of economic/ ecological wherewithal. Notwithstanding all that... who has the total and "real time" answer?!! It's just good that others around the world occupy Tibet in order to rebuild monestaries... in fact PBS just had a show on one rebuilt, but for the archeological value... obviously not in total initiative to uplift the people... as they just went there for the show. The people's wherewithal now is at an alltime low... that starves the very human libido there or id. For the posterity of Tibet and all that it symbolizes, something has to be done and soon. I guess it's good everyone's at the table!!!!!!!!! Now's the time to "lobby" for Tibet. Is there another Dalai Lama to assume his place in leadership once he dies? Or is it on the heads of the people there? Tibet must be freed. What stake do the Chinese really have there anyway? What value is the land to them? AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH fucking A. What a mess. Anyway, get some builders over there to install the first regional state of the art sustainable and benign energy resource for the Tibetans and give them the total rights to it. They can manufacture it for the world and corner the market. Sorry this is... somewhat sporadic, I'm not in the mood. I hope you think I appreciated your post. PEACE.

Here's what the US has to say on the issue.

What seems odd is that HH has already agreed that Tibet should be a part of China. Why can the U.S. and China not accept this point?

HH is an abbreviation for His Holiness the Dalai Lama. :)
I keep Google News set as my home page. You can customize it now and choose which country's news you want to see. I selected Tibet and moved it to the top of the display.
Now you know my secret for finding these little bits of info.

I don't know then the answer you're looking for.. living within the "political" perimeters..... I get claustrophobic dealing with foolish shit in a box. How can he still think to negotiate with a communist and totalitarian government? It's been and will always be a non-starter. China likes to rule with one fist over all it's land. Nothing less than total submission. It's by all means quite reasonable, if not perhaps as close to ideal it seems at this point that HH will, as always, maintain grounds for positive negotiations... but... I don't want to say any more.
The Chinese will have to eventually see that it's in their best interests to negotiate, but will they really? When HH departs this world, I think they will take advantage... even more. And the Tibetans will never really be free... Now one could argue that they'll always be spiritually free, but... damnit... don't waste my motherfucking time. It reminds me of the movie HERO. It's a profound concept/ lesson and ultimate sacrifice for the greater good conveyed in the movie... "Our Land"... but look at what really happened. Which leads me to believe Broken Sword's choice might have been a bit self gratifying in giving up his own life to make the statement of saving his enemies'..., and the greater good and sense of HIS words, "Our Land" would've been better expressed if he had aided in the assassination of the Emperor who just wouldn't get it... who ended up conquering and ruling China with an iron fist killing so many and oppressing all. There's a difference between falling on your sword, and being a better person.
Negativity is not good, and being good to those who have ill intent toward us is nice... but not when it come to posterity. It's hard to.... I just hope for the best knowing what I know... I hope you saw that movie to know what I'm talking about. Anyway, you're an asset for staying on top of it. I don't give any attention much to world daily news. I'd throw up too much with that kind of fill daily... I saw all I need a long time ago.

What are his choices? Well, hell, I don't know. I've said just about all I can from here. I really have.

Don't sweat it. You, me, and maybe MCMoot are the only people who seem to read this forum regularly anyways.
