i've been reading a little bit about going on a raw foods diet. it would be pretty easy, considering i'm already vegan, but still...anyway, there's a ton of hype surrounding it and it's supposedly really awesome for you. anyone with any experience with it? at the moment i'm just toying with the idea, but if it's really that great, i just might go through with it.

my friend cora did it for a bit, maybe 2 months. she says she got like incredible highs from eating raw. but she lost like 10 lbs and her skin/hair became a little dull and she craved soup.
it's great that it gets you eating more fruits and stuff, or if you're into losing weight. but ive read that the theory of denaturing proteins and whatnot is bullshit, because the proteins that are denatured are still denatured with stomach acid and never actually absorbed. i dont actually remember exactly, it's something like that. it also limit your diet a lot though, even as a vegan, there's a huge number of things you cant eat because it's cooked during packaging and whatnot.
power to you if you want to try it. :)

I can't imagine adopting it for myself as a total lifestyle. I know there are people who do, but in the English climate, it seems somehow unnatural to me. Imagine, months of grey rainy days, without any hope of a hot meal! I do think I'd likely lose all will to live.
However, I think that certainly including raw meals as a regular part of an overall balanced diet is certainly beneficial.

yeah, i don't think it's that great of an idea. i know some raw foodies that actually eat meat so rare it's almost raw. scary. i'm not really into it for losing weight, but really just for the health aspects. i'm really interested in this Eating For Beauty philosophy. it's interesting, really...you cleanse yourself from the inside out...but it seems really difficult to do. really, cooked food was key to humankind's evolution beyond homo erectus or so. (tee hee, erectus.)

they have breads on their menu. how the fuck to you make raw bread?
Edit - ok, I guess the buns aren't really bread after all, and that pizza crust is probably just some pressed together ground veg. But still, quejos is made from manioc powder which is made from cooked manioc root. When you eat there, Heiress, make sure you ask them about that. I'm curious as to how they make their quejos

How can you call that chocolate cake when there's no cocoa in it?
I have never checked out how raw diets work, usually I do want my food heated up.

What does it mean to be on a raw diet? Just curious.
basically it means eating nothing cooked, or barely cooked at all. lots and lots of raw, fresh, organic fruits and veggies and all. but some even go so far as to eat raw or almost-raw meat. i knew a customer at my store that was big into that...and duh, he got sick. good ol' e. coli.
