To be fair, they should have called it quits as soon as they started to sound like Lenny Kravitz...

From NME (http://www.nme.com/news/111778.htm);

Production team THE NEPTUNES have called time on their band NERD.

According to Pharrell Williams a record company dispute had forced an end to the group.

"NERD is dead. I don't agree with the management at Virgin Records so we're done," he told Radio 1. "Me and Chad (Hugo) still do what we do in the studio, Shay is still our best friend, you know, perhaps we'll do some music for our fans and leak it to the internet or something, who knows?"

Virgin Records have yet to comment, though Williams added he is not looking to make recriminations.

"I've been very quiet about it for the last two years,” he explained. “I'm not here to slander or throw dirt, I'm just not happy so therefore NERD is expired."

I thought the 1st album was really good when it first came out, then they re-issued it with real instrumentation and it was shit.

Hey, as long as they keep doing their production thing as the Neptunes, we're all set.

really, even though I have both records- i don't give a shit that they're done.

they could have left the world with "in search of.." and all would be well.

"fly or die" was their "hey, we're famous so let's capitalize" record. but it had some good tracks.

oh well.

Haha, another jerk-off new band bites the dust.

I'll express my joy by having a chicken salad later today.

"Fly or Die" was a decent album. No "In Search Of..." but I'd have been on board for any future N*E*R*D* stuff.

But yeah, I'm not THAT broken up over it, but still, they did some pretty cool shit.

*cranks up "Lapdance", "Rock Star" and "She Wants To Move" in their honor*

Apparently they haven't split...

NME (http://www.nme.com/news/111863.htm);

NERD have rejected (their own) recent suggestions that they have split up.

Comments from frontman and Neptunes producer Pharrell Williams appeared to suggest he was calling time on the band.

Williams told Radio 1. “I'm just not happy so therefore NERD is expired." However the band’s manager Loic Villepontoux has issued a statement from the star backtracking on those comments.

"NERD is still very much a band,” said Williams in the statement. “We are playing a show together in Japan in two weeks. And we continue to appreciate the support from all our fans."
