Rapper's Delight may not be "pure" hip-hop but this song did have a teensy bit to do with helping to expand hip-hop's popularity.

I don't understand the rape reference. :(

I just thought this was a cool little thing to see/hear--that was all.

No hidden agendas.

No sly innuendos.

No nothing.

Just something funny for a little break from the various crap we all have to deal with everyday.

It's not Hip-Hop, under any stretch of MY imagination. It might have helped, but is by no means Hip-Hop IMO.

The rape thing, read the file name of the flash file, it was a joke. Having explained it now, it's just silly.

I basically agree with you since IIRC the music is taken from a disco tune, "Good Times" I think. But what makes it (sort of) hip-hop is the rapping on it. Because I have a feeling true, hard-core hip-hop would have at the time frightened many of us uptight white people :D away from that part of the record store.
