it's that dance, freestyle, club, bullshit. that music is just completely worthless. i only know the names of a few of the artists, TKA and coro, but it doesnt really matter cuz every single one of those type of songs sound exactly the same. its that really bad music they play on KTU for those who live in new york.

A lot of techno music sucks ass, but so do a lot of rockbands.
You just have to find the right kind and then you'll be dancing your booty off all night.

I like electronica, but a good 95% of whatever is called "techno" is worthless.

maybe, but that's no reason to dispose of an entire genre.
I'm just trying to say that every style of music has it's good and crap varieties and if you are willing to look a little further than the mainstream and are open to it, you will find things that are really good, even if you didn't expect it to be.

I'll agree with you there. But for me, there's gotta be some pretty fan-fuckin-tastic techno, because most of what I hear is pretty unlistenable. I dunno, raver type stuff just doesn't do it for me.

Anything under the "dance" umbrella (and there's plenty of different styles that get placed in that category), I'll usually like if it's got the word "alt" or "indie" in front of it. ;)

I hate R'n'B.

'50s, '60s and '70s R&B is good (not to mention one of the backbones of rock and roll). But it's been pretty worthless as of recent.

Hrm. Forget it, I'll post it anyway, 99% of Jazz is POO.

I agree. How did the term that used to describe some of the best music ever made come to apply that that gargling-up-and-down-the-scales overwrought sack of shit stuff, anyway?

That's it. I'm heading to England and forcing you to listen to my John Coletrane, Miles Davis and all my bossa nova artists (Stan Getz, Astrud Gilberto, Joao Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Bebel Gilberto and such). Oh yes, I'll also throw in some Sinatra for good measure! :D

Only drawback would be that grade eight dances would become extinct. Think of the children!

And jazz is the last recourse of the untalented. Its what you do when you can't get a gig.

Freestyling is some difficult shit. It's nearly impossible to flow off the top of your head and think of meaningful lyrics while doing so. That's why battle rhymes are used; most are cliched, but if you can think of some good shit on the spot, you'll get the crowd on your side.

Yeah, Coltrane or Mingus or Davis have absolutely nothing on Interpol, man. Like, nothing, dude. Interpol have really pioneered music, dog. And they can really fuckin play their instruments like a motherfucker. I mean, they've totally revolutionized the role of reverb in rock music, bro. And they've totally created and pioneered like multiple new forms and styles of music. Shit, has Davis ever done that? Heck no, man. Heck no. Interpol are art, mandude. Totally original and revolutionary. Jazz is just cheap bubblegum music that talentless hacks go to when they cant get a gig. Right. Exactly.

Okay Lexy, fine, I'll check out some of the Jazz names here, if it means that much.

But in all seriousness, though be it a gay reason, I think it's psychological. I grew up in a pub where jazz bands would play and it'd keep me awake. Bear in mind I was about six years old. It's a naff excuse, but I think I link jazz to plain fatigue as a result of it keeping me up.

Now I live in a house, I'll give it one more shot.

I still maintain that ska sucks hard donk balls though.

I enjoy two of the three punk-pop bands you mentioned (NOFX and Me first & the gimme gimmes). They are great live and occcasionally put out some good songs. However, I do hate the more obvious punk pop bands that i'm sure you neglected to mention because its a given that you hate them. ;)

I also wish that techno, boy bands, pop divas ala britney spears, ashlee and jessica simpsons, christina aguilera (yes shes just another one of them) and most modern day R&B acts would self implode. Add to that list most modern day gangsta rap, crunk, really really obscure indie rock that you occcasionaly get on the local stations here that just have no tune whatsoever and rely heavily on experimentation.

I also appreciate, and occasionally enjoy classical, country and jazz....so I would rather that remained contrary to some of your views.

A LOT of underground hip hop contains House and Trance which both are considered dance music. I think you are thinking of Gay Techno (an actual genre of dance music). By the way, a lot of what I heard on Hello Nasty could go under the dance catagory.

Oh my, yeah, Reel Big Fish and No Doubt are just some of the ska crap my sister listens to. It does my bloody nut in. Die!

Both of these bands could barely be considered ska. If you want to hear some good ska you should hear The Slackers. I assure you they sound nothing like Reel Big Fish.

Bowling for soup and Me first and the gimme gimmes are not pop punk. Neither is NOFX really, except for a few songs. C'mon, do you really think Bowling for soup has any elements of punk whatsoever to be called pop-punk? The only reason I go out of my way to say this is because there are actually good bands like Dillinger Four that are pop punk, not shitty pop like bowling for soup.

can you name some the underground hip-hop that contains house and trance? and hello nasty is not even close to comparable to that freestyle club stuff.
