Im english and just turned 18 which means i can vote in the upcoming general election. cos of this i've been looking into some of the main issues. In britain one of the main issues is the national health service and how it needs to be improved.
its only now that i realise how lucky we are to have a national health service at all cos in the usa don't u have to pay for any medical care up front, so if u get run over do they check for your credit card first? sounds like a bit of a raw deal.

In the United States, care cannot be denied to you for monetary reasons.
Regardless of how poor you are, you will get care if you enter an emergancy room and actually need care.

Meanwhile in the real world...
Lack of health insurance coverage causes 18,000 unnecessary American deaths a year. (That's six times the number of people killed on 9/11.) (NYT, Jan. 12, 2005.)

Of course that has nothing to do with what I actually posted.
I said no one can be denied care, like if you were hit by a car you would automatically get care, regardless of your ability to pay.
He said this:
so if u get run over do they check for your credit card first?
Which is untrue, and I corrected him.

"The majority of emergency room patients are there as a last resort. Many are so ill they're unsalvageable, or their prolonged hospital stays cost enormous amounts of money. In the past, bankruptcy protected their assets; more than 50 percent of all bankruptcies are related to health care. But the recently passed federal bankruptcy law will close that financial escape route."
Yeah, right no problem here... you'll get help in the emergency room (and go broke) but they won't refuse you care. Of course any physician will tell you that prevention is where it's at and for many uninsured, there is no chance in hell that they will receive preventative care.
Yep, sounds very efficient to have people who have the flu (or some other treatable malady), wait 'til they develop pneumonia, then they can go to the emergency room and get treatment!

So the 18,000 Americans cited who are "dying because they don't have health insurance" are just too stupid to go to an emergency room and ask for treatment? Hah.
You really are a retard.

Holy shit, son. Take a statistics class please. Learn about "confounding variables" and how people are able to fuck up statistics with wording and all kinds of bullshit.
How do they come up with that? If someone dies from a chronic illness, and incidentally doesn't have health insurance, does that mean in the survey that their lack of insurance caused their death? Do you realize that with many kinds of illnesses, you can die even if you DO have health insurance? Did whoever conducted that survey take that into account?
Unqualified statistics are gay.

Have done, thanks. Now if you'd like to put your misplaced condescension aside for a moment.
Learn about "confounding variables" and how people are able to fuck up statistics with wording and all kinds of bullshit.
Are you accusing the New York Times of misrepresenting the facts?
Unqualified statistics are gay.
Tell the NYT.

Health care in the US... Interesting concept.
CORP-MED morticians with toxic treatments and suicidal surgeries, plundering the coffin to fatten their coffers. Narconurses who will tongue-wag to big brother if they think you've been a rebellious peon and broken the law to ease your pain with some natural ganja.
Remember Adolph's medical experimentation squad? Did you know that 106,000 Americans die anually from prescription drugs, when prescribed, filled, and administered accurately?
Now why don't American doctors tell their patients about the replicated studies that indicate walking a half-hour a day can provide safer and more effective relief from depression than SSRI meds like Prozac?

Good question, Q! According to the prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), approximately 106,000 Americans die annually from prescription drugs. This figure exlcuded cases of intentional or unintentional overdose, as well as pharmacist or physician error. 106,000 when prescribed, filled, and taken without error! This same statistic was reprinted in 50 Things You Aren't Supposed to Know, a wonderful book of esoteric information.

Hahah, unload where? Inside? Out on the bypass? I work from 8-11pm , for 120$ a week. I hear FedEx people get paid 11.50, I might switch, or quit. It's almost like a cult in there, they say they spend all this money on training you and want you to stay 5yrs+. F-That.

It was just called "unload". I guess my place was setup differently than yours. I guess you could call it "inside" of a hot & dirty warehouse in the middle of summer (no a/c). I had to unload the trucks as they came in from hauling long rolls of carpet, poorly packaged boxes of nails, bulk loads of street signs and other shit that was HEAVY and akward to pick up and toss onto the belt. We had some dick supervisor who looked like a nazi poster boy. He would constantly scream at us because we weren't moving fast enough. On my first day...my supervisor (who called me cupcake) said:
"Do you know what FRAGILE means? It don't mean shit!"
Fuck that job. After training, I wish they had sent me to load the trailers with the rest of the pussies...

Good point. For some reason, although they can cure loads of diseases, hospitals still dont know how to scrub a floor. Seriously though, MRSA is going to grow to such an extent that people won't dare go to hospital. It all boils down to doctors in the past prescribing too many antibiotics to everyone with so much as a cold. As for me I've not been to hospital for 5 years, and then I had to wait 2 and1/2 hours just to have a burn bandaged. Now when i'm ill i just lie in bed and complain.

are you sure it isn't "106,000 americans die annually while taking prescription drugs"?
otherwise, you are implying that the prescription drugs KILL the patients.
clarify.

Why yes, we are lucky in that sense, but healthcare in the US is most probably better than it is here.
I don't know, how are you guys in the US in your opinion? Over here there's always a shortage of hospital beds, long waiting lists and whatnot.
