grr. i just wrote a post and then it went away  ah well. this is me trying again. so, i hope you're talking about the class that you take in high school and college, am i right? well, if that's what you're talking about my experiences in those classes were pretty boring since no one really watched the news or read newspapers or anything so they never really started any interesting discussions or had anything to say, or the guts to say it. but, the class covered how the branches of the government work, what people do there, like lobbyists and the speaker of the house, um, they also covered election stuff, and they talk about your rights and .... well, politics. yeah. that's it.. i'm done.

Read Machiavelli. Father of Modern Political Science.

whoa, so much broader than that. i'm a poli sci major, and i absolutely despise machiavelli. to be honest i wish he'd never been born. he's quite a jerk.

anyway it's a pretty broad topic. at my school (uconn), there's 5 areas of specialization within the poli sci major:

Theory and Methodology (political theory, more or less philosophy)

Comparative Politics (international politics, to give you a view of how gov't works outside of america)

International Relations (self explanatory i hope...if not, maybe political science isn't for you)

American Politics (see above...it's about how the gears of the american political process work)

Public Policy and Law (strangely fascinating....i'm taking a constitutional law course, and while i guess it could be kind of dry to most people, it's just absolutely fascinating how the supreme court has developed as a bunch of fucking tools over the centuries)

what it boils down to is this. there's 3 types of poli sci majors. those who go to law school, those who work for the gov't, and those who go nowhere (temp jobs, gas pumping, whatever you do with liberal arts bachelor degrees these days). i guess that's kind of a stereotype, but it's more or less a guideline.

at least i'm not a philosophy major.

pwahahaa! i despise my philosophy professor. he's the kinda guy that smiles all the time. like even while he talks, and when he pauses from talking. ya know, those people that are overly nice that it just seems unreal and is very unlikable in my opinion. ihuhwuhuh. i shudder at his smile. so annoying! but, better than him being mean i guess.
