ramones aren't hardcore, so i didn't put them on the list.
and this thread is in the non-beastie boys board, so i didn't put the beasties in

The Notorious LOL

I love the homoerotic breakdown of what is and isnt "hardcore". Some kid was telling me converge is the "best hardcore band there is" but that shits like if the queerest kids from the arts high school decided to make a band.
of the bands mentioned, Id choose black flag.

i know helmet did something with house of pain but sick of it all and everlast sounds cool
i love the dead kennedys but i never thought of them as a hardcore band. i'm probably just ignorant as to what hardcore is exactly
Its all about the bad brains.

fear before the march of flames is not hardcore. my friends toured with them for a while, so i was around them a lot, and they got pretty annoyed when one kid said something about them being hardcore.
alexisonfire is not hardcore.
from autumn to ashes is not hardcore. or even a good band.
the dillinger escape plan is more of a math/technical band than a hardcore band, but at least they have talent. their guitarists are seriously amazing.

How are Alexisonfire not hardcore? I'm not trying to pick a fight, I'm just asking your opinion.

"Maneater" totally trumps Black Flag's "TV Party."

It's kinda funny what bands got lumped in the hardcore category in the 1980's (not to say Husker Du didn't start out as a hardcore band and seemingly end as wholly different band), and then to compare those bands to current hardcore bands is ridiculous, because there's a huge difference in what they sound like. I guess we'll always quibble about genres.
Personally, I don't go to shows unless I can do a 360 degree jump kick (while wearing my Bane hoody).
david, have you read this (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0316787531/qid=1113811515/sr=8-1/ref=pd_csp_1/102-4194977-1511353?v=glance&s=books&n=507846) book? it's pretty darn awesome, and it seems like it may well be right up your street.

That is an excellent book. I have probably bought six copies of it now, because I keep ending up talking to people about it and going "you know, you really need to read this book" and giving it away.
If I eve meet Michael Azzerad, he totally owes me a drink for all of the punters I've put on to that book.
