I don't think that's the issue. I hardly think he 'cares', much like I don't suppose the authors of the books I read don't 'care' what I personally think of their novels when I discuss them with my book group. Dicussing this particular person's music (and I use that term in the very loosest sense) is as relevant an activity to engage in as part of the discourse on popular culture as any other.

And anyway, it's hardly like the amount of money he or any other pop star - because let's face it, that is what he is - makes reflects an actual level of talent in today's world. It merely indicates an astute recording industry marketing department.
