The new White Stripes album is called 'Get Behind Me Satan'.

I'll be the first to say it. What the fuck?

It's from the Bible. At one point Jesus is telling the disciples he has to be killed, and Peter insists that it just ain't gonna happen. Jesus says, "Get behind me, Satan," because it was a temptation.

Jack White's writing has occasional Biblical refrences, so it's no big surprise to me.

From NME:

WHITE STRIPES have named their hugely anticipated new album ‘GET BEHIND ME SATAN’.

The album is released on June 6, preceded by a single ’Blue Orchid’ on May 30.

Plans for live shows are also coming together. Speaking recently in the US, Jack White told the LA Times that they are planning “events” rather than traditional concerts to launch the album. The first time they play in England will be at the Glastonbury Festival in June.

He said: "First we're going to play where we are not well known. Then if we have time, we will play New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. Frankly, we are waiting for technology to advance in the United States before we attempt to perform this record live there."

For the first, exclusive review of ’Blue Orchid’, see this week’s NME, which is out tomorrow in London (April 12) and nationwide on Wednesday.

...I wonder if he's being glib about the "technical advance" he's waiting for. I mean, they're still recording on analog 8-track reel to reel, right?

That is truly one of the best Album Titles in years. The White Stripes are an American Gem. I have never been what I'd call a fanatic about the White Stripes, but they can play and write like a motherfucker.

The writing is what got me to buy them a few years ago, that song named "The Big 3 Killed my Baby" sold me the 45 without ever hearing of them before.

The cover (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&token=ADFEAEE4781FD94CAC7E20C5903C40CCB269A329D456 F48150234558C08703499F1955E20EE9DCD2B5E577B479AAB3 2FA5500FD4C0EF51ECAD1B&sql=10:va2vad1kw8wo) is up at AMG.

One of the song titles listed is "Red Rain." No composers are listed for the songs yet, though. Since the Stripes do interesting covers, I wonder if there's any chance that this is the Peter Gabriel song? I have no idea what they'd do with it, but the possibility is intriguing.
