I'm posting this in both this forum and beastie-free because I'm interested to hear a lot of different people's opinions.
so here's the post again:
What's your opinion?
I'm sure this has been done before, but I was just sitting on the toilet and thinking about it.
Personally, I think they are. The whole argument of "Who would choose to be gay, nobody wants to be opressed like that" makes a lot of sense to me. And also that supposedly (I put this word in for Qdrop because I don't have the time to go find out if these studies are actually around) studies show more and more that it is in your genes , etc.
It's really interesting to me that there are organizations such as Evergreen International (http://www.evergreen-intl.org/) who's mission statement is "Evergreen attests that individuals can overcome homosexual behavior and diminish same-sex attraction and is committed to assisting individuals who wish to do so".
A non-hilarious version of "But I'm a Cheerleader" basically.
Looking at their q&A, I guess it's a good thing that questions like "Can People Overcome Homosexuality?" is answered with:
Homosexuality is an alterable condition. However, people must desire to move away from homosexuality and must receive appropriate help. Homosexuality has two aspects: feelings and behaviors. We believe homosexual behaviors are out of harmony with God's intentions for men and women. Those who wish to stop their homosexual behavior can do so.
Homosexual feelings, often referred to as same-sex attraction, can be very troublesome, but they are not sinful. People do not choose same-sex attraction. However, these feelings can be diminished.
as opposed to ye olde "homosexual thoughts are a sin".
I think now for people who will actually come to the terms with homosexuality, the option in their minds is that homosexuals remain celibate. But what difference does that make really? They are still most likely jacking off to thoughts or images of homosexual acts. I realize that there is a line between "thinking" and "acting on" feelings, but you get my drift.
So, what do you think?
