View Full Version : NIN - With Teeth

An early promo copy somehow managed to land in my lap, and so I've got a few listens in with it.
It's pretty solid. A lot better than I was anticipating, as the buzz around it wasn't too strong. Starts off really weird with the pretty quiet 'All the Love in the World', and ends off even quieter with the beautiful (a weird way to describe a NIN song) 'Right Where it Belongs', which is probably the true follow-up to 'Hurt'. It's a much more synth-pop experience than the last 2 albums, especially with 'Only' one of my favourite songs on the album, a really strange funk-dance-pop song that shows Trent can lighten up and still make good music. 'Beside You in Time' is good too, a slow, distorted tune that sounds like...well, it sounds like Radiohead. There's a couple of weak songs, like 'Every Day is Exactly the Same' and 'With Teeth', which aren't bad, just very bland and by-the-numbers. But overall, I liked it. Way better than the Fragile. And unlike I feared, it doesn't sound dated. Trent is still on the ball.
I'd give it a 7.9/10. It'll probably be one of the better albums this Summer.

So we're pretty much dealing with a sound akin to "Pretty Hate Machine"?
Excellent. (y)

although going back to Pretty Hate Machine after this stuff makes that album sound incredibly sparse, this album is SO dense production wise,
although I still reckon Down In It has my favourite intro to any song ever,
Oh man this new album is just what i needed, its defo more song orientated than the fragile,
this album shows trent to be one of the finest producers in ages, he is so underated as a producer.

i bought the fragile when I was in my Limp Bizkit/Korn phase and it woke me up fast.
I'm pumped as fuck that With Teeth is less than a week away.
the summer of awesome music is underway.
it landed in my hard drive the other day, and i LOVE it

I've listened to this album four times today, and I don't even feel like I've got even a basic grip on it.
This one is going to be spending a lot of time in my CD player. I want to understand its every nuance. IT WILL BE MINE. I WILL EAT ITS SOUL.

Right Where It Belongs is the best Nine Inch Nails song ever composed no question about it.
I ordered the import, downloaded the album a couple weeks ago...but I want the bonus tracks.

It's really stunning.
I had no expectations, and it usually takes a long time for me to decide whether I like something, but I'm loving almost the whole CD.
By the way, I don't have one single friend who will ever listen to NIN. As I was listening to Right Where It Belongs tonight, I was thinking, "how can I make them listen?"

I heard that DFA will be doing some remix work for "The Hand That Feeds" (and more, I hope!)... I'm really looking forward to the results of that.
It's so good. It's sooooo good.
DFA?! Fuck!

I read in the new issue of Spin that Trent has nearly completed another album (new stuff, not remixes) that he's hoping to put out by the end of the year. He vows the 5-year gaps between albums are over.

If anybody here bought the DualDisc version of this with the video & the surround tracks, I was wondering what you thought of those.

I think it's worth the extra couple dollars - it's nice in surround sound and the video's good. It also has a discography, which is the same as the one on the dualdisk for the downward spiral, with the new album added of course.
