I just got this 1950s Box Set from Rhino (http://www.rhino.com/store/ProductDetail.lasso?Number=75704) in the mail today.
It's apparently taking an anti-nostalgia take on the '50s. Instead of the happy-go-lucky Leave It To Beaver type stuff, this is trying to show the dangerous side of 50s rock 'n roll.
I am salivating just looking at this thing. Can't wait to listen to it! (y)
I definitely want that '80s college rock box set ("Left of the Dial") next. :)

Yeah, it's just ridiculous the amount of quality stuff that Rhino does. Spanning all genres and eras. :)
No, never heard the oldies show. Is it a national program? Is it still on? Moreover, which CBC radio did it air on?

Shake the Shack on KEXP (http://www.kexp.org/programming/progpage.asp?showID=6&1413=38464.75-1&96=38464.75-1&20=38464.75-1&256=38464.75-2) is kinda sorta the same type of show. They play some really obscure Rawk-A-Billy stuff.
Here is a stream form last weeks Shake the Shack. (http://kexp-web-2.cac.washington.edu/redir/kexpwmredir.dll?A8B058E2C321972A70F6E6658A84893A3F 6A1E736006DD346885E2869986FA14) Give it a few minutes to warm up, it truly does start to rock.

My favorite station on XM radio is The 50s. It makes my tiny house happy.
I bought the 80s alternative box because DS kept shoving it in my face, even though I had about 30% of the stuff already. It's a fabulous sampler. (I was going to put that in the what did you do because of someone from the board thread)

I shoved it in your face? ;)
Ironic, since I still don't have "Left of the Dial" yet. But we all know it'll be grand.
Also on my radar is the Nuggets II set. More stuff to salivate to. :)
P.S. - Docu... who's that on your avatar?

I'm listening to the 4th disc on this set and I LOVE this set.
It's a great combination between some familiar tracks (Elvis, Chuck Berry and the like) and some stuff I was previously unfamiliar with (Eddie Cochrane... who fucking ROCKS!).
Like the 70s punk set, an excellent cross-section of stuff to introduce you to some good '50s music. (y)
