I love FruityLoops.
CakeWalk is great too.

Cakewalk isn't bad, but I liked Acid a lot better once I got that. Of course, the version of Cakewalk I had lacked any type of beatmapper feature, you just had to know the BPM's of anything you were bringing into it and then chop it up from there.
Have they changed that at all?

Ok, if you are looking to get busy using your computer then....
For free you can checkout:
Pro Tools (FREE) (http://www.digidesign.com/ptfree/) (works on all macs, but Win98 on PC only)
a toned down version of digidesigns mammoth audio recording/sequencing application.
Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/)
a free wave editor. Fine tune your samples and wot not with this.
Kristal Audio Engine (http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/KRISTAL/)
This baby will probably not be free for long...try it out. A sequencer, editor and mixer with bells on.
Then the not very expensive pro ones to checkout are:
FL Studio (http://www.flstudio.com)
This is my weapon of choice. Download a free demo at the site.
Reason (http://www.propellerheads.se/)
Very good sequencer, jam packed with instrument and effect racks.
Project5 (http://www.project5.com/)
Cakewalks soft studio is like the above two. Accesible and fun.
Acid Pro (http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/products/acidfamily.asp)
Nice for it's auto pitch shifting of loops. A good alrounder.
You could always tear up your Dad's record player tho :D
Oh and purchasing the magazine, Computer Music monthly comes with a CD full of free software hosts, synths, samplers and loads of samples to get you going.
I have downloded Audacity, and it's good.
I dont think it the best of the best, but it's fine for me :)
I think You would like it :)
