I literally just came back from the store with it.
I'm listening to it right now. So far so good. (y)
An employee at another music store who actually knows music(!!!) let me listen to his own collection of music like this on the store's music system (very cool of him). There was a Vandals album I liked too, one with a song about soccer moms, but the store didn't have that one in stock so I just bought the NOFX album.

A lot of people on this board don't like this band but i'll stick up for them. Yeah most people will tell you that punk in drublic is their best stuff but i kinda like pump up the valuum despite it being poppier than their other stuff.

They vaguely remind me of Blink 182--is that why some people don't like them? Not that I'm worried about what others like/dislike, just want to know.

With a stretch of the imagination I guess I could see some people saying they are like blink 182.
But I think people dont like em cuz you always see those people (you know the type) that wear NOFX stuff and you associate that with an image and i guess people think its cliched. also fat mike did that whole Rock Against Bush tour which people thought wasn't "punk" enough cuz they supported Kerry/Democrats.
But I think those are shallow rationalizations because they all hinge on images and labels. Just b/c your a "punk" doesn't mean you have to have the attitude like 'fuck the gov't" and whatnot.
Wow, didn't mean to get so preachy back there but that is seriously how I feel. PS NOFX rules

I liked NOFX when I was in 6th grade. To this day I still kind of like their older stuff, but I wasn't a big fan of Punk In Drublic. All the songs sounded the same. I think the reason a lot of people don't like them is that they arn't that good, they have gotten worse over the years and they fail to support their political message. How many times can you get away with saying fuck the government over and over again? I definitely wouldn't compare them to Blink 182 though.

Linoleum is probably in my top 5 nofx songs, other than that song and dont call me white Punk in Drublic is just ok. I prefer white trash, two heebs and a bean (y) But yeah I will stand up for NOFX anyday, although I wouldn't compare NOFX and millencolin, they are quite different styles of 90s punk. Plus NOFX has been around much longer. Anyway Rancid beats both NOFX and Millencolin in the new punk genre :D

(I'm going to reveal my ignorance here) Roughly speaking, what musical classification would you guys put these bands in:
Black Flag (I have one CD from them, In My Head. Any suggestions on another good one to get?)
Rollins Band (I own Weight, The End Of Silence, Lifetime)
Sonic Youth (Goo)
I had an MXPX CD (Teenage Politics) but didn't like it much & finally sold it.
Mike Watt Ball-Hog Or Tugboat? (http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?style=music&bab=E&pid=1089467&cart=245663389) the guys on the cover are actually wrestling--one is doing a single-leg takedown on the other to be exact (check out who's a guest on this album--sometimes he calls himself Clarence when parents are after him............)

I would say Black Flag is punk. I don't really know about the others. What I heard from MXPX I would say they are pop rock or something like that.

No, Im not comparing. I think NOFX is a lotta more punk than Millencolin. And for sure Rancid is more Punk than both NOFX and Millencolin. I just say that i prefer Millencolin. I like a lot their sound. And Rancid is ok!!! They're simply great!!!

Black Flag: 90s punk ala bad religion, nofx etc
Rollins Band: never heard of them
Sonic Youth: not exactly punk. Experimental style, alternative. Get daydream nation, there isn't a single punk song on there. I know they did punk ( I mean they shared the bill with the beastie boys and the young and the useless in their early days at cbgb's).
MXPX is pop punk similar to blink 182, sum 41 etc except for the fact they are christians so minus that aetheist edge that really 'makes' punk what it is. I dont particularly like them.

You never heard of Rollins Band? Black Flag singer Henry Rollins' 'new' band. Been around for ages.
I really like NOFX and punk in drublic is probably one of their best if not their best album.

I honestly have never heard of Rollins band. Australia seems so to be behind on the whole punk scene at least. We are up with the revival rock scene though.

Thanks everybody. I'm not always sure if the reviewers on some sites always know what they are talking about, even if they are gettign paid for it.
Rancid: don't feel too left out--I first heard of the Rollins Band while watching a Beavis & Butthead episode when B&B reviewed their song "Liar" (http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?style=music&bab=E&pid=1168880&cart=245837007) (I have never heard their stuff on the radio). Here's Henry's (Rollins) website (http://21361.com/). He is also a fan of the Beasties; he's been in several movies (http://imdb.com/name/nm0738433/); he's an author; he publishes works of others that other publishers usually won't touch; and is a spoken word performer/semi-comedian.
And I'll have to get "Daydream Nation"--this is about the 27th time someone has told me this! :)

Rollins Band is more of a bluesish rock band than a punk band.
As HiFi said he does a ton of other stuff and I think he's absolutely hilarious when he does stand-up'ish gigs. I think he's a great storyteller and one of his best most moving stories coincidently involves the beastie boys (they are mentioned on it, it's not actually about them).

i really respect NOFX.
haha my best memory about them is this girl i knew in high school that was kind of stupid but wanted so desperately to be punk and fit in with the punk crowd (which i happened to be a part of...shut up). one day she came up and asked us, "hey do you guys have the new noffix album?"
we were all really confused until someone cracked up laughing, saying, "oh god, she means NOFX." :D

MXPX, Blink 182 and Sum 41 definitely are not pop punk. That is insulting to real pop punk bands!!

I knew a girl just like that. She would say N-O-F-X instead of NO-FX (which really isn't that big of a deal), but it was pretty funny when she called Fat Mike "Fat boy Mike".

My first NOFX album was Punk in Drublic to. even though i still dont have them all yet, to me this was the best place to start. Pump up the Valluum is probably ur next best choice unless u have a record player then u gotta try to find Surfer.
Has anyone else on here signed up for the 7" club? The First three are out and theyre wicked good. i still need Ribbed, S/M arilines, So Long and Thanks for all the shows, and War on Erroism. I love this band and right around i bought my third cd by them they became one of my top 10 favorite bands. Yes Rancid is better, but NOFX has been around WWWWWWAAAAYYYYYY longer. lol
