i got in on the action when it leaked. listened to it and deleted it and wondered why i wasted my time on it.

It's supposed to be their weakest release... but whatever, I'm still getting it! :D

I've never understood the appeal of Weezer. I like the odd track, but I'm stoically underwhelmed by everything they do.

Pitchfork gave it an unsurprising 0.4/10

I dunno, the single didn't do much for me at all. I'm not expecting much, unfortunately.

Make Believe isn't horrible, but it's really bland and just...not good. Rivers is now either too insane or too normal to make anything great like the days of Pinkerton and the Blue Album.

agreed. so sad to see how far the once-mighty have fallen.

Darko, it's because he's had too much crack. or maybe not enough. either way, it's not JUST the right amount.

from what I've heard from it, its alright but nothing special and certainly nothing on par with their work from back in the day, in the mid-90's. I think they are trying to go for a certain sound now, but they have really no particularly original elements, like the constantly shifting form of Across the Sea from Pinkerton or the interesting work with motives of Only In Dreams from The Blue Album. I think Pitchfork is basically total horseshit. I mean, its not Weezer's best album, but that review is just comically hyperbolic; reminded me of when they gave The Mars Volta's Frances The Mute a 2.0/10. It seems like they are far more interested in bitching and going off on an absurdly biased rant than actually objectively evaluating the CD on its merits. Obviously a great deal of the review is the subjective opinion of the reviewer, but I find it impossible to take seriously a review that says that Make Believe is "just awful," and then justifies this by saying that the songwriting and playing is lazy and uninspired, lacking creative spark. If that is the case, which I would generally agree with, then the CD deserves a mediocre rating, but lack of creativity, treading water, no forward progress, whatever you want to call it, doesn't merit a 0.4/10. That's just silly. I'd give this album like a 5.5/10. Its probably worth having.

Make Believe, just like Rolling Stone and many other reviewers have by now said, is truly Weezer's 3rd great album. The Green Album and Maladroit, while excellent, were not on par with The Blue Album, or Pinkerton. Lets hope River's Cuomo goes with this flow, and gives us some more albums like this...

My favorite tracks are "Beverly Hills", "Hold Me", "We Are All On Drugs", "Haunt You Everyday", and "Perfect Situation". Little known fact about track 11, "Freak me Out"....Rivers was inspired to write the song, about a spider.

It won't let me edit, but I've listened more thoroughly and I'm officially changing my grade to 7.75/10. It's a pretty enjoyable release.
