It's not like Ma$e, it's like mace when the cops fuck around and spray you in the face with painful chemicals.

That's what I thought but in the "Welcome Back Remix", Kanye says that a couple times so it made me doubt that.

Yeah, its gotta be ma$e. Somehow I think that a crash breaking your jaw and cheekbone is more painful than a spritz of cop jizm.

I think Mr. Films has the right idea here. Next line immediately following it is: "Thank God I ain't too cool for the safe belt."

I just googled for the lyrics and it was written "Mase."
I'm gonna check the liner notes when I get home to see if they are the same.
A clever play on words, nonetheless.

What the hell does that mean?
My buddy asked me this exact same question a few months ago.
I think I gave him the Mr Films response.

What the hell does that mean?
kanye was in a bad auto accident and broke his jaw in 2 places...
he needed to get reconstructive surgery and have his jaw wired shut.
hence the title of the song and the hook "through the wire"....he was rapping through the wire in his mouth....
he was comparing the pain of the experiance to being maced (the chemical irritant that cops use on your face).
