I've heard Mom's Mabley was the source of this sample, but found out it's not true. Mom's Mabley was "Oh yes indeed it's funtime..."
It wasn't Redd Foxx
It wasn't Richard Pryor
It wasn't Bill Cosby
So who was it? Anyone know?

We've been trying to figure this out for a while now. Other names that have been mentioned are Rudy Ray Moore and Robin Harris. So far we have not been able to find it.
There are some other threads on here discussing it...check out the search function.

I heard it was an opening act that showed up on the "B" side of a Redd Foxx album. Came out sometime in the mid seventees, though I could be wrong. I want to hear that whole bit, and I LOVE the sisters at the very end start to freak out with laughter.
This question has perplexed me since "Ill" came out. If any Beasties check the boards, please drop this one on us. We'd appreciate it!

Very interesting. By "opening act" do you mean it was another comedian on a Redd Foxx album? Do you know what album? What is a "B" side on a comedy album?
There is a Redd Foxx album that has a track titled Mashed Potatoes but that is definitely not it.

The other comedian was either an opening act, or someone touring with Redd Foxx at the time the record was made. I'm remembering this from another discussion board. The guy said he'd heard that bit before as a kid. His dad owned the record at one time. I'll try to find what he said and post it here.
i think it could be George Wallace.

I contacted someone from Rudy's website and they said it wasn't him. If you search through the other mashed potatoes threads you can find what the guy said.
just emailed a comedy website, and might be getting an answer if i find out i'll post the sight, and the name of the comedian.
