I was at my allotment today, minding my own business and digging up weeds when I had a feeling that I had to look up. THERE WAS AN ELEPHANT ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FENCE! She was minding her own business, eating grass, like she'd always been there doing that.

As it happens the circus had come to my neighbourhood. There's one in that same field every year, but they don't usually have animals. This elephant was in its own enclose with just a rope. Further on there was camels, lamas, dwarfdonkey, zebra and loads of ponies. The elephant just walked over the rope to be amongst trees where it was more quiet. Her guardian came to fetch her several times, just offered a stick and she took it by her trunk and followed gently after. After a while she just walked over the ropes again.
I went to take close-ups of her and we shook hands/trunk and I could pat her head.

I love the look in the elephant's eyes.

When we were growing up, the circus often went through our back yard to get to Forbes Field. My sister and I usually followed the line of animals and we'd sneak in the park that way. (In hindsight, they probably knew what we were doing and looked the other way but we always felt like we were very clever doing that.)

I love your butterfly photo too. They all made me smile.

Thanks! Do elephants mean that? I really do hope so! I went to the allotment to dig some weed because I was so angry because I didn't get a loan I'd applied for. Now I got to get 10.000,- SEK in 10 days somehow, to pay for the rent for the Flower Show expo... :o

well I know that here in the states you can get these figurines of elephants with the trunks up. You are supposed to point them in the direction of the door or main entrance in your house so that all good things or good luck enter your home. Elephants are such wonderful, peaceful animals. The one in your pics looks old...but beautiful.

That elephant looks old and tired (and probably mistreated and sexually abused by carnies) :(

Where I live? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . check here ^

yeah the elephant looked and felt really old. Her other backleg was stiff as well, propably from chains or some other captivity thingy. She must've suffered a lot when she was younger. There's a couple of circuses here that are forbidden to keep animals because of mistreating them. All these animals looked really healthy and you could tell by the keepers that they liked their animals. Well they have to, they're their livelihood and they'd loose their bread as well if they'd mistreat them.

and Futterman, you shouldn't scare the elephant! They might go on a stampede!
