have you got any foods that you used to hate when you were younger, but now you've sort of got accustomed to the taste? i think our tastes do get more refined as we get older. surely there's some sort of biological reason for this, but whatevs!

me, i used to hate:
feta
tzatziki
prawns
hummus
natural yoghurt
brie

but now i loveeee them all. bit of a greek theme there.
i used to strongly dislike olives, and i'm only just becoming turned towards them late in the day. same with mussels. still a bit unsure though!

I love all of those.

I seem to have a particular thing for hummus lately, I can't stop eating it :(

yup, bit of hummus and a nice hot pitta bread. yum.
do you have any acquired tastes though or is hummus a long-time thing?

I was never too fussy about food so I can't think of anything that I didn't like before but like now. I was never particularly into hummus and started eating lots of it lately though.

Oh, slightly related, falafel. The first time I ate that I was like "sure, not bad, but... could use some meat" :D

I was at a festival last summer and suddenly got a taste for it. I think I ate four of them in three days (which is as many as how many I had in my life up until that point :) ).

edit: Just realised I haven't had one since either :D

when i was a kid i hated tomatoes. now i love 'em. cut up a big juicy one and salt it and that's half a meal for me. and cherry tomatoes? drool.

i used to hate this Goddess (tahini) dressing we carried at my store but now i can't live without it.

I've always been pretty good with everything except in my teens I couldn't do brussel sprouts or broccoli which I now love....chutney and capers are the only 2 things I still HATE.....if you're starting to come around to olives you should look for spanish style's,stuffed with pimento, anchovies, almonds, sundried tomatoes and my favorite, feta stuffed!
Oh and mussels are awesome, have you tried them in a tomato marinara?
I like that style even better than with white wine and onion....god I must go and try to find mussels this weekend(that aren't already opened and still have the beard) in this damned land locked, high plains town! ;)

Annie's? I LOVE that stuff...put it on rice, dip pretzels in it. Yum!

It took me a while to like tomatoes too. Now I love em. I used to hate guacamole until I got pregnant. I ate a ton of it towards the end and I still love it. Weird.

Oatmeal.
I never liked it, not even the flavored kinds. Then I dislocated a disc in my jaw a few years ago and had very limited jaw mobility for about a year. For the first few months, I couldn't even open my mouth an inch wide. So I had to get used to eating oatmeal almost everyday, because it was one of the few substantial foods I could eat without severe pain.
Now I like it just fine, and still eat it from time to time, even though my jaw mobility has improved to almost normal.

bit of a tomato theme going on here!
funnily enough, i seem to be going off them nowadays.. i can never get the right, firm, tasty, tomato. always soggy crap ones that explode and pollute the rest of my salad/sandwich/whatever.

i agree with the oatmeal thing, too.
i think when we're younger we generally don't like wholemeal-y things, at least me anyway. i hated brown bread. now, i would never think of eating a white bread sandwich - ugh.

I used to hate the stuff when i was younger. Why ruin a perfectly good apple pie with it? But now.... Mmmmm (y)

Hmmmm... cinnamon ice cream!

I realised today that I used to dislike parmesan cheese. Now I not only love that stuff, I also support the football club from the same city it comes from! ;)

aaaaahhh cottage cheese.
now i'm still unsure of this. it just seems wrong - you know, it's not quite yoghurt and it's not quite cheese. a sort of mid-way hybrid of bacteria. i want to like it, but i just can't.

oh and mcmoot: thanks for the tip! i'll try some olives with feta, seeing as it should combine two foods i have acquired tastes for!

I can't really think of anything. Except, this thread made me remember the time when I wouldn't eat tomato sauce. I loved it and then for a couple of years, I couldn't eat it. That's when I discovered a spaghetti that I still love. Spaghetti with a bag of frozen vegetables (green giant asian, I think is the one I buy) with parmesan and mozzerella cheese melted in, yummy! I do eat tomato sauce now though, it was just a phase.

If you put it like this I'm not sure I like it anymore :(

Beer, never liked it.

I'm sure my first vodka and whiskey didn't taste as good as they do now though :)
