Take me now baby here as I am
Pull me close try and understand
I work all day out in the hot sun
Stay with me now till the morning comes

Come on now try and understand
The way I feel when I'm in your hands
Take me now as the sun descends
They can't hurt you now
They can't hurt you now
They can't hurt you now

Because the night belongs to lovers
Because the night belongs to us
Because the night belongs to lovers
Because the night belongs to us

What I got I have earned
What I'm not I have learned
Desire and hunger is the fire I breathe
Just stay in my bed till the morning comes

Come on now try and understand
The way I feel when I'm in your hands
Take me now as the sun descends
They can't hurt you now
They can't hurt you now
They can't hurt you now

Because the night belongs to lovers
Because the night belongs to us
Because the night belongs to lovers
Because the night belongs to us

Your love is here and now
The vicious circle turns and burns without
Though I cannot live forgive me now
The time has come to take this moment and
They can't hurt you now

Because the night belongs to lovers
Because the night belongs to us
Because the night belongs to lovers
Because the night belongs to us

The real early stuff, Blinded by the Light has some great rhymes, Spirits in the Night, Rosalita (Come out Tonight!) those songs have that uncanny optimistic feel, it's hard to describe, so many ideas in such a compact format, really amazing.

The song Backstreets is great, just a full out onslaught of Bruce
The song Darkness on the Edge of Town is amazing, so is Racing in the Streets.

I really didn't like Born in the USA, but one song that really stands out is the achingly beautiful Downbound Train. Love it.

The River is my favorite album, just a cool tough record. Point Blank.

hey.. this is a liitle off topic but still about bruce...
Back in 2003 on his rising tour, my family and I went to see him in two places; edmonton and calgary alberta. so anyways at the end of the first concert( calgary) some guys told my brother and some of his friends that they could go backstage and meet the boss (because they were so into the stuff and it helped the band keep goin). So they met him and they could request a song, at first they said rosalita, but he said they werent doin that!... i cant remember what song they ended up requesting, but the next night in edmonton bruce did a solo of that song on piano, dedicated to my brother and his friends!

I was at the Edmonton show! Spectacular night! (y)

And I do remember when he dedicated that song to your brother... sadly, I forget the song title. But it was a great song!

Saskatchewan? You poor, poor thing. ;)

I've listened to "Devils & Dust" only once, but I liked what I heard. I overall prefer the full E-Street sound, but I can enjoy Bruce when he's alone and introspective too and I think it can sit proudly next to "Nebraska."

It took me a long time to realize that "Wld Billy's Circus Story" is one of the best songs he's written.

Darlington County has one mean cowbell.

*edit* I'm sitting here listening to it, some how it turns all tragic after the lyrics, " Our Pa's Each Own One of the World Trade Centers."

The River is my favorite album. I don't have a favorite song that he wrote and sings. I liked when he covered War. I like when he doesn't scream. He used to sing, and then he started screaming, and I started hating him. When I saw him last week, he sang BEAUTIFULLY!!! So he still can. I mean, it was just lovely. He did the River. Wow.

I love that Ms. Peachy picked the Patti Smith song, because I was going to pick Fire. I just love the Pointer Sisters (pre Jump) and I love love love that song. The way they sing "Romeo and Juliet" sends me back to junior high school every time. [Not as good when Bruce does it, but still good.]

(y) YES! It is so imperfect it is why I love it so much! Great song too. I'm jealous of you getting to see that show.

I think The River ages well because it's less polished. Except for Hungry Heart, which doesn't fit the album.

I like the cheesy ones, like Sherry Darling. And Independence Day was my favorite one a long time ago.

Bruce talked a lot at the concert. Apparently just about every song on Devils and Dust is about mothers and sons. He walked out to wild applause and said that if he heard a cell phone he'd get out a chain saw and come into the audience. He said that people couldn't clap along or it would throw him off. He did a song on a pump organ I think. Then he did one with just tapping his foot and harmonica. Then one with just piano. Then one with just guitar. People would do a smattering of applause when they recognized a song, so he told them to quit doing it because it's not Vegas. He said if they would just nod their heads he could feel it. Another song. Then he told people who were whistling to "cut that shit out." Then we sat in utter silence and just listened. I was really surprised because I wasn't excited about going.

Sounds like he's turning into Charles Mingus. :D

Nah... he's always kind of asked the audience not be respectful, but it definitely sounds like he's getting stringent. I'm not sure any performer should expect that sort of rapt attention -- maybe in opera or something; but I've even heard classical albums with applause...

But this show is just him, and it's in a much bigger venue than where you would usually see such a show. They did a good job of setting the tone by passing out a handbill telling you you wouldn't be seated during a song, you can't get liquor during the show, etc. I think they had to crack down hard because many fans aren't used to it. And ever thing he said was in a funny way, but serious too. Most people were on the edge of their seats, so there was a big cheer when he told the whistlers to shut up. He said he was really thankful that he could do a show like this.

I wasn't sure I even wanted to go, but I wouldn't have changed a thing. I can't believe he found a way to do this with his massive audience. My friend who is a huge fan and who usually drags me to his concerts refused to go because it was acoustic, and I don't dare tell her how great it was. :)

I've heard lots of bootlegs and stuff (and much of the official live stuff) and I know he always handled the shushing with aplomb; I'm glad to hear he hasn't gotten grumpy with it.

Mingus used to be just flat out rude about it. There's one recording that even begins with him basically chewing out the audience before the concert's even started. Something like "We don't need no applause, and no cash register ringing, and no glasses clinking; this is my music, and I don't need you folks trying to add into it."

I thought it was kind of funny that they opened the album with that, all things considered, but it certainly set a tone.
