Looking for some instrumentals, really want to get into DJ'ing and shit, open peoples minds to the good music out there .. etc. DJ'ing at this party but in a church! (figure I could gain some experience from any work..) ARG! Haters of music!!

So no cussing obviously, anyone have any suggestions. I was thinking of popular songs, and just playing the instrumentals, or making my own. I've messed around with Acid and Reason a bit..

I have a hard time finding instrumentals, I might hit up a local store for some vinyl, but I'm pretty new to all of this so I'll take baby steps.. Need me some turntables too so.. Anything to help me get started would be excellent, song suggestions to tips or good mix tapes... whatever..

FYI: It will be a wide spectrum of music tastes, like mine from Rock-HipHop to oldies... Not sure how to move from genre to genre, last time I tried I failed horribly.

Awesome. Really what types, I mean I know very little so I don't know in which manner these vinyls are made. Or what different kinds there are..

12'' are usually singles with instrumentals of the songs on them.(same size as a normal album)

you can lots of good records on ebay. get some tables get some records shake wait 2 years and yer a DJ. You need to build your own crate so its an expression of you..no one can really tell you what to put in there.

Awesome, what about making my own... Voice cancelling etc... Any idea?

errmmmm no I haven't played with voice cancelers....

that would be kind of weak if you were doing it for a gig...

I make my own beats all the time...get an MPC1000 and then you can make your beats on it and play them as part of your set...or heck get fruity loops on your computer for that matter.

you still haven't defined yet what it is you want to DO so you'll need to think about all this stuff in that context.

Hmmm, well for this gig I wanted to play some popular tunes, with "questionable content", Not very good at producing stuff yet, I have messed around a bit, need more time to mess around with programs and get used to them and all their functions.

Any tips on making genre transitions.... since I will be hoping around a large range of music generes.
