when i with my buddies we do the usually guy thing like checking out chicks and pointing them out to one another. every once in a while i'll find a hot chick dressed in bummy comfy clothes and i'll point her out. and my buddies give me a odd look. and i tell them "hey the chick is hot underneath those clothes. and she's probably not a pain in the ass becuase she knows how to relax."

is“nt that what "song for the man" is all about??

Coincidence I hadn't noticed. Skinny is more "high fashion" though.

not that this is great fashion but I love these series of her:

i don't know why, but i can't stand her. i mean, i can't stand most celebrities, but for some reason she irks me, and i have no real reason to dislike her.

I like her for a stupid reason. I don't think she's a good actress or even an interesting person, I just like the way she looks. She looks a lot like a girl I used to be close friends with back in college; Amanda. Amanda was so sweet and awesome and then she went and got married and went to graduate school and lost touch with everyone. Ah well. She had a lot of similar features to Jessica Alba. If her nose turned up a little bit more, she had green eyes and a slightly more square face, she'd look just like Amanda.

mickill
11-15-2005, 03:49 PM
I recently discovered that Jessica Alba is actually quite hot. I couldn't get past her irritating character on that stupid ass Dark Angel show at first, which was all I really ever saw her in. Maybe she's just newly hot, I don't know. Or maybe it was always there and I was just too blinded by the stupid show.

mickill
11-15-2005, 04:11 PM
Yeah. I'd definitely wanna take her shopping and bake a cake for her if I were single.

Nonskinny, nonhoochie girl with an amazing and enviable body. This dress really flatters her.

http://www.style.com/slideshows/parties/091505DIOR/19f.jpg

I wish I could find a simple black dress that I like. The simple things are the hardest to find. Just a simple black dress that fits well, of quality. A plain pair of jeans that fit. A white dress shirt, a black jacket...to find something quality that fits that doesn't have a bunch of extra trendy details, that's the hardest thing.

Those are timeless looks and that's exactly how I prefer to dress when I have to wear something that's not pants.

I rarely wear dresses/skirts, although I will be this weekend and what I'll wear is a black and one-piece version of what's in that first photo.

That second shot is a really nice look for Autumn. That look is one of my favorites.

I always liked the way Carolyn could pull her hair back and look perfect. I pull my hair back and it looks like I've spent the afternoon painting or something. Too messy.

hey I like it! I like dogs though, and to express that through my clothes. then again I was wearing 50's poodle skirts when I was in 5th grade. I have always been weird I guess.

and if I saw a librarian with that on I'd lure her to the bathroom and beat her into submission and take it from her. I would.

I never did understand the whole idea behind expressing your nonfashion related likes in your fashion...Unless it's like an athletic event in which case you're not being fashionable you're only expressing your opinion.

In theory, I guess it's cute to combine them but I never really see it working very well. Or in any case I never think it looks fashionable to wear witty phrases, or dogs, or native americans, or kittens on your sweater.

Okay, so there are band shirts and other cartoon or movie themed shirts, or jack daniels shirts...but I still don't think it looks stylish as much as it looks like you just didn't care and you thought very simply about it.

no offense to the california girls but I AM SICK OF CALIFORNIA FASHION. i am so freaking glad that the next few seasons look like people are about to put sweaters and socks back on because I AM SICK OF CALIFORNIA FASHION. color isnt fun all the time. wearing 3 little shirts layered on top of each other isnt fun. as a matter of fact, most clothes worn by young girls out there isnt fun (nor terribly flattering).

what happened to wearing black pants, a nice sweater and some great shoes? HUH?

(sorry im angry. just went shopping and everything looked like trash in the store)

A lot of grown up ladies like to wear only designer labels or "quality" stuff, and say you have to keep away from "that teenybopper crap" but I will shop anywhere, Delias, Wallmart, Sears. I mean, it's cheap and you can combine things from different places. It doesn't have to be a status label to look good. You should wear what fits you and feels good, right? Who cares if it's not intended for you to wear?

it's the style. layering seems to have come from cali girls. as did colors. and wearing stupid shoes like uggs(?) and most things you could buy at shop bop. and most things you see everywhere. i actually read an article the other day on how fashion doesnt come vogue and all that shit, it's not trickle down, but it's california based. and that just snowballed my ongoing anger.

Ultra-straight-legged tight jeans that appear to be coming back in style: those look bad on very skinny people and so do dresses that show leg when the person's legs are sticky.

I saw those skinny-legged jeans in stores (Old Navy & American Eagle) and remembered how they fit when they were out the first time around. They were made of some sort of stretch material then and they're stretch now too.

They tended to look bad on girls with very thin legs (there was nothing tofill out the leg) and awful on girls with heavy legs (they overstretched the stretch in the jeans) and not so great on nearly everyone in between.

I don't like the skinny jeans either, on anyone. I even think they look bad on the models.I wonder if some Web sites realize this too because a lot of them didn't feature photos of the jeans on actual people.

There was one Australia-based jeans company that looked to have a pair of really tight and high jeans. They looked like designer jeans from the 80s but with a more modern wash to them. Those 80s designer jeans had hugely high waists and were long and thin-in-the-leg and they were usually of a very dark wash or they were black. I haven't seen black-washed jeans in eons--are they back in style?

And monkey, I second that about sweaters. Nothing beats a quality sweater and nice-fitting jeans. That look is especially great in the fall. It's hard to find simple stuff like that in stores.

There are different, sometimes conflicting philosophies about how to dress. I tend to drift between them all.

There's the idea that you dress for the opposite sex. And it doesn't mean blatantly looking to get hit on, it just means dressing to look good, to highlight your best features, to look as feminine or masculine or sexy as possible - whatever your idea of sexy is. This is all about fitting your clothes right and flattering your body and skin.

Then there is the imaginative way of dressing, where you dress in things you like, to show off your things, and the work that went into them, the craftsmanship and style. It means you look for things that inspire you, that invoke a mood and you wear them to inspire yourself and to enjoy possessing them.

There's also the idea that you wear what is functional and appropriate for the world around you. This means you basically dress for other people but you also dress for your role amongst these other people. You wear what the occasion calls for and don't show off yourself or your things. This is very utilitarian and functional above anything else, comfortable.

is this dressing for happiness? cause thats what i dress for. happiness and warmth. if my shirt can make me smile, i have a spring in my step.

I do, but only when I'm on my way to dance class and I use that as my excuse for having them on. I want to wear them fashionably but whatever I try them with looks so forced, and makes the tights look really out of place. I've seen some outfits with white tights, mostly mod looking things with bold colored mini skirts. I suppose I could do that. Having the right shoes is important. I don't want to do the mary-jane schoolgirl look. I've also seen it done in a 70s style, with long tiered skirts and sandals. I don't really like that. It's kind of funny, wearing a cotton sundress and sandals but in the fall, by wearing a turtleneck under the dress, and tights.

And then they proceed to tell me that I should try scrunching it, which really doesn't look all that great but they think they've discovered something and I hate to disappoint them but honestly what do they think, that I'm not aware of that which grows from my own skull? And anyway it's only curly when it's wet, once it dries it's not nearly as exciting. i like skinny jeans! of course they don't look good on everyone. is there ever a style that does? i agree with enree that they look even worse on the very thin. i have a great UO pair that look pretty rad on me. but i've actually lost a lot of weight and they're pretty baggy on me now. you can't get a cheap pair - i've found that my beloved forever 21's skinny jeans just don't work right. my ass is so flat and my thighs are so fickle that i can only find about two really good pairs of jeans a year, so i don't mind spending a little extra on that.

it's always too hot here for me to dress the way i want. i don't like showing much skin. yet another incentive to move to seattle...

08-30-2006, 10:23 AM
to be honest I've given up completely and shopping for a particular inseam. I will pick up 34" and the surrounding sizes. I have to try on at least 20 pairs or more of pants before I find a decent pair.

Sometimes I wish we lived in the future where we'll all have matching silver v-neck jumpsuits and silver boots, tailored to our bodies. And each night we'll put them in the insta-sterilizer so they will be ready for the next day. We'll all have a spare, of course. And we won't need pockets either, for some reason.

I'm starting to think I don't agree with the fashion taste of the other girls on this board. To be honest, I like nice interesting outfits but most of the time I'm boring and I don't even care about looking stylish. Most days in the week, as long as I'm covered and clean, I don't care at all. And I use those terms "covered and clean" loosely.

so I guess this would go under fashion....ladies I need some opinions. I am standing up in my brother's wedding Sept. 30th and I went last weekend for a practice hair and makeup, I was trying someone new and brought some pics of what I wanted...and this is what he did. I really wasnt a fan, my hair is really big and curly and he made it really straight and flat in the back. I am currently looking for a new person...but I am cutting it close as far as an appointment goes so I am wondering if I should just stick with this 'do'. eh. thoughts? It looks nothing like the pics I brought with me.

see, I think it has the right amount of height on top without being a gay gwen faux-hawk
I think that style looks trashy and is totally not classy enough to be wedding party worthy

2 things

1. i love your hair color.

2. you need to get the hair "teased" a bit. to give it more volume in the back. either that or only the the front straightened and leave your natural curls in the back. but the hairstyle is very cute.

wellies. rubber booties. rain boots. all good names. as for brands? i dont know. everyone makes them. my friend has a pair from pucci i am quite jealous of. they're classic rain boots, which is why you saw them so much. you saw how dirty and mucky the streets get when it rains. those boots are just good common sense! the weather sucked so royally and we had some tree-issues to deal with. anyway... wellies!

you dont wear shoes under them do you? Like gym shoes? Some chick told me that. I thought just heavy socks.

and seriously nata, why are you asking ME if i can wear them in the snow? steger made enough fun of me for buying them for the 5 days of rain we get here.

Is it still a faux pas to wear white to a wedding if you're not the bride?

yes. all eyes should be on her. It's her day.

My future sister in law let us pick out our own dresses only with some guidelines that they had to be floor length and black. One of the girls found a dress with white piping and asked if that was ok well, she flipped out and told her no way! Sheesh. so yea, no white unless you are the bride.
