I like the 5 buroughs album but I havent listened to it in almost 6 mths becuase every thing else I own is on my MP3 player. it feals like I'm being punished for actualy wanting to own the album as opposed to just stealing it. is there any way i can put this on my MP3 player? if not this is the last beastie boy album I "pay for" and I might as well add in all the capitol records for that matter. I'm not angry it just doesn't make sense to pay for an album that I need to carry a seperate player for.
any help here would be apreciated I really want to listen to the album again

Have you had a problem backing up your copy of the latest Beastie Album? I only use my CDs twice, once on the way home from buying it and then again for copying and I had no issues with the backup of this album. I used Winamp 5 pro w/o issues. If there is some kind of security on it, I am unaware.

yes i can't back it up. when I put in the CD it defaults to a instalation of it's own media player. then I can't play it or do anything with it till i install the CD specific player.
i tried opening it wth media player and win amp and both show no information on the CD

That's weird. I've done it a bunch of times.
When you place the album in and the default player included on the CD installs/opens, close it. Then use a program called CDEx (freeware ripper) to rip to MP3. Copy those files to your MP3 player and it should all be good.

Hold the SHIFT key when you close your C.D drive. It will stop that player from booting, and you can rip like Rip van Winkle catching his sweater on a gate...

get iTunes, then you don't have to even worry about that cd case taking up any space

ok so I tried the shift thing (which stops the player from inst ) but once I open the file this is all i get.no actaul music files.

so I DL'd the CDex and I get closer I can see there are 16 tracks and I can name them but when I go to rip them it says that there are no tracks selected.

Select the tracks then :)
Also use Alt-H or Alt-G (if I'm not mistaking, check the help file/menu's to be sure) to let it grab the names from cddb.

The copy protection isn't very... well... protective :)

Select all of the tracks except for the last track called Data (it's the >200MB file CDEx will detect) and then encode to MP3. Make sure you've got them selected before you rip.

it's really wierd I tried it again and still nothing. it comes up "you don't have any tracks selected no matter what I do I checked the help file and found some links that might have helped if they hadn't been out dated. i tried selecting individuals groups leaving out some tracks as you mentioned. even re instaling the program. really this is way more work than I should have to go through to get access to music i bought. mabey it's time I pulled out my walkman thats been sitting in my colset for the last 10 years :p

I rarely rip/burn cd's but that "copy protection" logo just asked for it :o
I had no trouble whatsoever copying, ripping and playing the cd with my pc.
Just ripped the first track to test it. I selected it, hit the "mp3" button and it ripped the track.
If you installed the software from the cd it could be possible that that is preventing making mp3's although I think it's unlikely.

It makes no difference whether or not the software on the CD is run or not.

thanks for trying guys
CD_ex ripped mine with no problems. Just had to close the video thing that opened up.

I remember a thread like this a while ago, the copy protection blocks out people with older computers. Try one thats running XP, if that doesn't help then I don't know what will. I was able to copy it through iTunes on a Mac running OSX.
