JOHN SQUIRE has said that he wants to reform THE STONE ROSES.

Following a recent sighting of the three original members of the band - bar singer Ian Brown - at a gig together in Manchester, the guitarist has revealed that he wants to get back on the road with the baggy legends.

When asked by Time Out magazine as to whether he would be making any more solo albums, Squire replied: “Well, we had had twins at the start of the year, so I’ve had my hands full with them. But yeah, the plan is to make a ferocious guitar record on my own. And then to put the Roses back together.”

Then asked whether Squire was getting on with Brown, he said: “Well, that remains to be seen.”

As previously reported by NME.COM, Squire re-ignited one of the most notorious rock feuds of recent times earlier this year when he branded Brown a "tuneless knob" and a "paranoid mess".

Brown then hit back saying: “For me, right, he split up the best band in the country at the time, the Roses, and he went on to do what? Nothing. Nothing to write home about, so he must be a bit bitter because he’s got to watch me steaming forward."

However, Noel Gallagher recently claimed it’s “only a matter of time” until the Stone Roses reform.

Speaking in the current issue of City Life magazine in Manchester, Gallagher, who is friends with Ian Brown, claimed the four original members of the Roses would “be idiots” if they didn’t play together again.

He said: “They’ve got unfinished business, and they’d have to do new tunes, but they’d be idiots if they didn’t; Mani would at the drop of a hat; Ian and John have got issues, but they can be worked out."

it's been over 10 years, so I'm highly skeptical...however, it's a damn shame they didn't conquer the world in 89/90 and if they reform and make a new album, it'll be too good to be true

regardless, great news (y)

Nobody even cared all too much for the last album, though.

I thought it definitely had it's moments, myself.

I hadn't even thought they might record/release some new stuff...

I remember Mani-I think saying there was more chance of city winning the european cup than the roses getting back together, so I wouldn't build your hopes up. Would be great though

Having witnessed the Reading '96 show, i daresay a reformation would be a VERY bad idea.

at Reading the only original members in the band at that point were Brown and Mani...and Brown pulled an all-nighter before their show. a reunion would only transpire if Brown and Squire made up and it involved the original line-up.

Second Coming was dope and it's got some of the finest blues rock I've ever heard on it...but it's a shame tracks like 'Moses' and 'Ride On' were left off it and made b-sides.

From today's NME (http://www.nme.com/news/112853.htm);

IAN BROWN has broken his silence over the rumoured STONE ROSES reunion -and has asked guitarist JOHN SQUIRE to call him.

Excitement grew last month when three original members of the band (Squire, Mani and Reni) – bar Brown - were spotted together at a gig in Manchester.

The baggy pioneers were then asked to fill the vacant headlining Sunday headlining slot at Glastonbury left by Kylie.

Brown, who until now has not commented on the reunion rumours, exclusively told NME.COM: “It’s like a yearly rumour now isn’t it? You’re talking to the man who’s done four LPs and is putting together a Greatest Hits, so really that’s all that’s on my mind.”

He explained: “If the kid was serious, John, why doesn’t he phone me? Why does he go through the media? Why doesn’t he call me? I’ve got the same phone number as when he last spoke to me on nine years ago. Why doesn’t he phone me? That’s all I’m saying.”

When asked what his response would be, Brown quipped: “It’d probably be two words.”

Brown is currently putting the finishing touches to his ‘best of’ LP, provisionally titled ‘The Greatest’ and due for release on September 5.

“I’m mad excited,” he said. “We’re just been deciding the new single and we’ve got a top coloured booklet with all the photos from the last eight/nine years. There’s going to be a 13-track bonus CD with all the best B-sides and remixes so it’s a good package.”
