LONDON May 28, 2005 — A cell phone ring tone appeared set to top the British singles chart Sunday, outselling the new single by the band Coldplay by nearly four to one, a music retailer said.
"Crazy Frog Axel F," a ring tone based on the sound of a revving Swedish mo-ped, is the first tune being used on mobile phones to cross into mainstream music charts, said Gennaro Castaldo, a spokesman for HMV, the British music retailing chain.
What kind of music is this......song?

Coldplay's new song sounds just like Clocks, therefore, I'm glad crazy frog kicked its arse.

Sweden actually.
They interviewed the guy who'd made the original moped sound on the radio today. He'd done it years ago. When he was a kid he was always envious of the older guys riding their mopeds so he started imitating the sounds when riding his bike. Then he learned to trim his brother's moped so it would make an even awesome sound. When he got older he started making that sound on his computer and his brother had put it on the net somewhere. ZTV had heard it and then rest is history....
I've never actually heard the single itself, just seen the frog ad on telly, and those ads are so annoying because they show them several times on each ad-break. Like even less couldn't drive you crazy....

This crap comes from Germany...
Proof once again that the Germans have never given up the dream of world domination, but have indeed drafted a brilliant strategy to conquer us all one mobile phone and sun lounger at a time.

They just ran a story on our local news in Minneapolis about how Brits are buying the ringtone song instead of a song by "an up and coming band with a new single". And instead of said "up and coming" band's new single, they were playing Clocks in the background. At least I think it was Clocks. It sounded like Clocks. Which sounds to me like Sting's Desert Rose song. Which I only know because it was an ad for something.
Oh, and they had clips to make it look like our local news was interviewing random Brits on the street about the frog song. One was even standing in front of a call box (like the chocolates come in) so we would know it's England. So our local news is just taking the tape off of someplace and putting our local announcer's face over it, because we don't have a correspondent in London, so we? Errrr.
