I want to surround myself with cute stuff and just suffocate in a fuzzy fluffy pastel mountain of adorable baby sunshine and giggles.

My perfect decor is non-decor. The surfaces are smooth and the walls are mostly bare. They're nearly that way now--white with very little sitting on top of the shelves or hanging on the walls. That might be--is--very boring for some people but it's less distracting to me. And it's easier to dust. :D
I don't like statues and knick-knacky things although I have accumulated a share of them as gifts over the years. I've boxed most of them away.
I've got a friend who lives on a street where everyone has a postage-stamp-sized front yard (like maybe 6' x 10'). My friend lives next to this older guy and his wife. In that tiny front yard of theirs, they've jammed everything that they sell at the lawn sections of Walmart & K-Mart.
They have statues of 4' tall frogs perched next to statues of 1' tall kids who are fishing in various ponds and fountains that bubble up colored water. The tree is jammed with hangy inflatable things. They leave their Christmas and Easter and Halloween decorations up year round. There are Easter eggs that hang over Santa's head and there's Halloween spider webbing on both Santa and the Easter Bunny.
They have gnomes. Numerous sizes and colors and types of plastic. Some of the gnomes hang from the tree.
They have snake lights that change color depending on the season and, damn, there's a central light show that's computer controlled from inside the house. The light show controls the color that's projected onto the fountains and ponds and into the tree in case you want tinted snow in winter.
And a windmill. They have a windmill as a sort of centerpiece. Its only benefit is that it somewhat obscures the view of the wagon wheels that they've perched beneath the corresponding gigantic prehistoric-looking butterflies that are mounted on the porch railing.
Every year, they add more to that front yard. The back yard is filled to capacity and it's frightening. Above ground pool. It's decorated.

^that would drive me batty
i hate lawn decorations with a passion. i think its such a pain when i have to move things around just to dust, but my neighbor has to rearrange his entire yard scenario yard crap everytime he mows his lawn. they also have a windmill in their yard, various gnomes, and i think even a couple of those tiny black man jockeys holding lanterns. i wonder how cluttered the inside of their house is.

I forgot about that. They have one of those too. They painted his face white and he doesn't stand on his own anymore, so his ankles are buried in rocks to prop him up. He's crooked.
I've wondered about the inside of that house too. I figure the outside is looking like that because the inside is filled to capacity.
It's nasty. But it's also funny because when he adds something new to the yards, my friend calls me and we play 20 questions until I guess what the addition is. I'm waiting for him to add one of those dogs that looks like he burrowed himself into the ground.

buahaha
yeah fake animals as yard deco are worse than fake people
i hate driving by houses that have plastic deer strategically placed around the yard, because sometimes i do a double take because i thought it was real
i nearly got a photo to put in this forum, but before i could get my camera, my dog moved -- i was outside and when i came back in the house, i caught him sitting on the window sill (windows are open and he was gazing outside) :D

Yeah or those animatronic ones with the lights strung in their innards. The only way they look partway decent, I think, is if they're on a farm or something, way outside of the city. But there, you'd have the real deal and wouldn't need the plug-in ones.
Was your dog sitting on that window sill smiling? I love when dogs smile. I had a dog give me a mile-wide grin on Sunday. I saw it and the owner did too, but the people I was walking with didn't. It couldn't have been more plain to me.

his facial expression was about as happy as his gets, but he doesnt usually smile unless i scratch his face. if he is in a grumpy mood though, his forehead wrinkles up and his nose too. hes got about a million different faces.

Oh damn, when I'm in someone else's house as a guest or a house/dog-sitter I go out of my way not to look or be anywhere other than the places where I'm expected/supposed to be. Which usually makes it hard to be a guest in someone's house because I hate even to go into the fridge.
I don't really think I'd get anything out of snooping. What do you get out of it? What do you do with the info you uncover? ...share it with friends? Then they'll know you snoop. :D

I love that about dogs. They're so expressive. I know a German Shepherd (spelling?) who, I swear, is trying to figure out what I'm thinking and saying. It dumbfounds me when she does that.
If I had a dog, I'd put a bandana on him.

our shih tzu knows tremendous amount of words. when you talk to him he pays attention and cocks his head and genuinely listens (and i think understands quite a bit). my maltese is funny because he has selective hearing at times. if he knows that i am leaving the house and i tell him goodnight or ask him if he wants a cookie (that means that its time for them to go in their crates) a lot of the time he will just plop his ass down and stare completely off in another direction and pretend he is ignoring me, though i can see him staring at me out of the corner of his eye. its kinda funny and cute, but it makes me feel bad and it annoys me when he ignores me. :)

I love that no one has put any human babies in this thread. I mean sometimes they're ok but their appeal truly comes through in an in-person encounter. I have to look at so many snapshots of my employees' nieces and nephews and children and cousins and grandchildren...ah!! I get so sick of pretending to be charmed.
Hey you two I like lawn ornaments! I think they're hilarious and just so precious. If I had a lawn, I'd set up some gomes and a windmill, maybe a couple of flamingos and a pinwheel or two. <3
In the meantime I guess they would have to clutter the kitchen floor.

I never carried a photo of my son until the last year. I put that photo of him in my wallet because the picture of him so doesn't look like him. It was a formal photo where they posed the hell out of him (graduation shot: required black suit, class ring, podium, crazy-neat hair, fake, fake smile). He looked like a lawyer or that he was running for office; normally, he's just runing to or from a frisbee with crazy wild hair and no shirt on. The photo always cracks me up but I can't remember who I've shown it to/not, so I took it out. You have to know him anyway to get the joke of how much he doesn't look like that.
The secretary next to my office is fond of taking her grandkids to those booths where they spill babies out of pumpkins or make them sit in the middle of a pile of obviously fake autumn leaves. Her latest is that her grandson is dressed as a troubadour from head to toe. It's a prethious little outfit. He has a rose in his mouth and he's grimmacing. It's a horrible photo and I go the opposite direction when I have to leave the office so that I don't get pulled in to admire it. What could I say to that.
