Two things you can try:

- Use lots more water. Pasta gets sticky from the starch that's being released as it cooks. Using loads of water will mean that the starch content is ultimately more diluted than it would be with less, if you see what I mean.

- Once the water is boiling, before you put the pasta in, ad 2 tablesppons of oil. Not your fanicest best olive oil, just basic oil wil be fine. Some cooks maintain, this does nothing, some say it helps prevents the stickiness. Worth a try, I say.

Also, when you drain your pasta after cooking, give it a quick but thorough rinse with cool water to rinse off the excess surface starch.

i sometimes do the oil thing also, and like ms peachy said loads of water helps a lot.

i also keep my water boiling nicely while the pasta is cooking, i think it helps the separation of the noodles, and i stir it a lot with my pasta stirry tool thingamajig.

It's funny how the Italian name for different food is bastardised in English by replacing the final E by an I.

Zucchine
Fettuccine
Spaghette

...

Ok, I made that last one up. I guess it's because in english the e would be pronounced as an I.

Oh ehm, sorry, carry on.

Changing an "E" to an "I" really counts as bastardization?

Maybe my pasta's just defective. I tried the oil thing and I always rinse my pasta to no avail. Next time I"ll try with a bigger pot and more water. Thanks for the tips. I would try that hippywholegrain pasta but regular pasta's only 59c for 500g. FIFTY NINE CENTS, FIVE HUNDRED GRAMS??!!!?! That's nearly .1c a gram.

wholewheat, or multigrain, or rice, or kamut pasta has so so so much flavour

once you start eating it and you try white pasta again, no matter what sauce you douse it in, will not give you the same satisfaction

plus its pretty hard to overcook wholewheat pasta, so its basically always a perfect el/al dente

Well... I see your point... but...

It's understandable that you mispronounce the words but the subsequent changing of spelling to accomodate your mispronounciation is just plain rude!

I like both of them but in my opinion some types of condiment taste better with white pasta and some with wholegrain.

For example, whole grain tastes very good with tuna but I prefer white pasta for smoked salmon :)

unfortunately, i can't really use whole grain pasta that often because it's too high in fiber for steger :\ but i can use it for myself. it's just rough for us to make two different dishes every night...

Wait a minute... I didn't know the entire English speaking world said the words wrong. This is seriously news to me.

So how are you supposed to say it? If it's not "fet-i-chee-knee" then what is it? "Fet-it-cheen"? I really don't know.

Enlighten me, please.

Wow, I really feel like an idiot now since I like Italian food so much.

Nope, no "knee" at the end, it's basically "Fett-utch-ee-neh".

No need to feel like an idiot though, I'm not as appalled about all of this as I let on ;)
