Pixies? The Cure? Dinosaur Jr? Gang of Four? Mission of Burma? Other??
I saw Go4 a few months ago and I was right at the front - just a little ahead of the PA - so I could hear Gill's guitar distruction right from the amp and it was fucking awesome and sinister as a million sith lords all shredding guitars at the same time. That was easily in my top 3 gigs on the night and looking back was overall the best night of live music I've ever experienced. Jon King was jumping around crab walking around like a wide eyed nutcase, the rhythm unit were as tight as a badger's twat and just hearing the songs off the first two albums turned inside out into stage destroying anti-anthems was absolutely top dog and you can't even tell that these guys have aged 20 years since writing those tracks.
I saw Mission of Burma in a much smaller venue also in Manchester about a year ago and had to leave early for various reasonable reasons, but what I did catch was meaty and fantastic - to hear songs off Vs and their newest record again in such a "we haven't aged a day" fashion and they just looked so much more into it than their opening nonchalant support acts.
I'm all for our favouritest fattest 80s friends getting back on stage and embarassing themselves by becoming the rock behemoths they swore to overthrow in their prime. The Pixies are next on my ticket for leeds as are Iguana Stooge and his band. They'll both take shits on all the new bands. High five fogies. (y)
