In each chapter of this compilation put together by Jim DeRogatis, a rock writer blasts a classic rock record he/she thinks is overrated, from Sgt. Pepper's to Yankee Foxtrot Hotel.

I'm half-way through and so far there have been many laugh-out-loud funny ones (and too many Lester Bangs references). I am a huge Beatles fan but I have always hated Sgt. Pepper's and think it has maybe 3 good songs on it. So it was fun to read someone pick it apart. I was also delighted with the chapters on The Doors and on Patti Smith's Horses.

It's even interesting when they bash some of my sacred cows, like Exile on Main Street (Keith Moerer notes that "most of the basic tracks were laid down by everyone's all-time favorite Stones lineup: Richards on guitar, producer Jimmy Miller on drums, Mick Taylor on bass, and Bobby Keys on saxophone" and it is funny that everyone's favorite Stones album has only a couple of songs the Stones play as a band on :)).

Some of my biggest sacred cows are ahead, including Imperial Bedroom.

I got it from my library. ;)
