Yes they do. I'm a leaner and here's an idea I dreampt up.

Why not allow candidates to have a few options for themselves on the ballot. For instance George Bush + Full Health Care, George Bush - War in Iraq (if it was unappealing to the candidate they wouldn't add it). You could have John Kerry + Socially Conservative Package. Then you simply add up all the different votes for each man and that's how many votes that man got. Whoever got more votes in a state wins the electoral college for it and whichever platform of theirs got the most vote is their platform.

Democracy???

That would NEVER fly here! This is America!

Take your polyanna ideas somewhere else son. Here we like to present the electorate with a narrow selection of candidates that aree agreeable to the party bosses. Then we like to run the two "winners" against each other so that they can be your representatives in government. Then they will ignore all of your wishes and just comply with the K-Street lobbyists or local business financiers. Then if you get REALLY fed up with them you will be presented with an option to replace that person with someone else they've found who will screw you even worse.

People directly voting for things would be too much like self determination. What ever gave you the idea that you were qualified to decide things instead of the rich white guy in the expensive suit? What about tradition?

THINK ABOUT THE CHILDREN! Children like expensive suits. And they're not even eligible to vote. You don't see them crying. Well sometimes you do. But rarely ever over a lack of Democracy. We can learn a lot from the children if we stop to listen. Democracy is dumb. You don't want to be dumb do ya?

Well do ya?
