The visit of the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, winner of the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize, is the keynote event in a semester focusing on issues related to conflict and moral obligation. Honors seminars, special lectures, concerts, exhibits, films, and other cultural events and activities inspired by the Dalai Lama’s visit are being planned and will be announced shortly.

If you go, I would suggest getting there much earlier than you would normally.

When I saw the Dalai Lama last month, there was a public talk outside of the teachings--I didn't attend that talk, but I heard that the lines to get through security checks were tremendous. I think 10,000 people attended it; it was given indoors.

(For the teachings/courses that I attended, there was tight security, but after the first day, everyone knew what to bring/not bring, so on subsequent days, the security checks happened pretty quickly. Still, most people had to build in an extra 20 minutes and on that first day, it was taking something like an hour to process people through the queus.

Don't bring a knapsack. If you bring a bag/purse, make it one that can be examined easily. Probably they won't let you have umbrellas or cameras. Don't know about cell phones.)

They'll start the lecture whether/not people are seated, so maybe get there early and then take that time to enjoy the day.
