JayZ because nas just pumps out albums so rapidly I consider them to be low quality. Boo. I am biased though because I like JayZ.

I'll say Jigga by a hair.
I say this because I think he's still quite capable of making great albums (case in point: The Black Album.) His overall impact on other rappers, and rap in general seems to be greater than Nas, considering Hov has two landmark albums under his belt, and Nas has just one.
Nas didn't excite me much on Street's Disciple either.

They're both great in their own ways, but I feel Nas is a more respectable MC considering he doesn't kiss the mainstream's ass the way Jay-Z does. I think Nas is more of an artist, wherein Jay-z is more of a business man. Jay-z knows how to glorify himself in a way that makes him look larger than life to those perceiving him. Nas could give two shits about his image and is in it purely out of his passion for the music, hence he pumps out albums frequently. Nas is constantly in the studio creating, on the other hand Jay-z will make a handful of tracks and simply promote the shit out of them and squeeze every last drop out of them that he can. He just loves to see his name and face on the billboard. This isn't to say that he's not an extremely talented and accomplished artsist, though. Just my opinion.

jay-z dropped an album a year every year since 1996
nas has only dropped half that, i think

isnt this discussion about 4 years too late? christ.
overall, Jay. However, Jays best album isnt touching Nas best album.
I remember when Nas dropped that weak diss after getting his ass handed to him on "Takeover" and everyone jocked it like he was the second coming of christ.
^ out of those Nas albums, Illmatic was hot, Half of Gods Son was hot, Half of Stilmatic was hot, a few tracks from I am and It Was Written are hot...and Nastradamus is trash. I wont even count The Lost Tapes since all of those tracks were on white label EPs years before that came out. Everything Jay has done minus Blueprint 2 and those R Kelly albums has been good.

Nas recently dished out 2 MILLION DOLLARS (U.S.) for a beat from the Neptunes.
The beat is so great, that it had interest from Puff Daddy as well, in turn causing an all out bidding war for rights to the drums between Nas and Puffy.
Think two million for a beat is a bit pricey? Busta Rhymes, who has already heard the drums, thinks Nas payed what the Neptunes deserved for this one.
Check inside for comments from...
Nas
Puff Daddy
Busta Rhymes
"Nas can have it" says P. Diddy after Nas bidded 2 million for a new neptunes beat, which Diddy wanted to have.
"Im busy with recording my best album so far and money doesnt play a part", Nas explains.
The big audience will have to wait 2 month before they will be able to hear this pricy beat, but Busta Rhymes already said. "Ah shit, thats the craziest beat, I ever heard! Those drums man, Those drums are fire! If Nas is gonna rap to this beat, its going to be over. This will be the biggest hit in the history of hiphop!"

thought this was intresting considering he is supposed to be against everything that Jigga or mainstream would do

i would tend to agree with most of this.
well put.
however, while i think Nas IS a bit more of an artist than Jay Z overall....Nas has done plenty of commercial shit in his career...."money ain't a thing" with Dupri.....
blowing 2 million on a neptunes beat rather trying to produce some shit himself.
i mean, say what you want about Eminem...but at least he's brought himself to a level where he produces or co-produces most of his own tracks now...and produces for other people on his label...rather than just paying for beats for every fuckin track.

and you know...
i really couldn't decide between the 2 of these guys...
they both can spit...they both can freestyle with the best of em.....
i really don't see either having an edge when it comes to MCing...

NaS-One Mic is my favourite song of all time
I'll take Nas' thought provoking lyrics over Jays "dumbed down to double my dollars" any day of the week. Jay picks better beats though.
And lol @ Ether being weak?!?!
Ask Jay, he'll tell you he got murked.

anyone heard the "diamonds" remix with jay? he keeps killing it. cant wait for his comeback album. plus kanyes first verse on the remix is pretty interesting, basically admitting its shit to wear diamonds cuz of what goes on in sierra leone over it. still fucking wears them tho.
back on topic, theyre both great!
"I was Scarface, Jay was Manolo
It hurt me when I had to kill him and his whole squad for dolo.."
