10. Doom
If you look at it now it's kind of hard to see what was so special about it, but when I first saw it it looked so realistic compared to all the cartoon-looking games from back then. The dark hallways that all looked the same, the monsters, the weapons, it just had this atmosphere that no other game had. Or has.

9. Mortal Kombat II
In high school they taught me how to speak french. I don't remember many of the words but somehow I still remember how to become invisible with reptile (block up down high punch)

8. Sam and Max hit the road
I like adventure games a lot, and Sam and max hit the road had tons and tons of incredible characters, jokes and environments. And it's funny as fuck.

7. Mario Kart
Best multiplayer game, so much better than mario party or whatever. Single player isn't that much fun though.

6. Super mario Bros. 1
This was the first game I ever played on a console, maybe even the first game I ever played. Super mario bros 3 is better, but this was the first really good platform game, and it's still one of the best games even after all these years, so I have to include it.

5. Wario Ware
I like simple games where the object is to beat a highscore. Wario ware has about a 100 minigames and because the order changes all the time and the speed keeps increasing it never gets boring. I play this a lot on the train.

4. Paratrooper
I don't know if anyone knows this game, I have no idea if it's famous or if I was the only one who played it, its a game I played on the pc more than ten years ago. Basically you had a canon in the middle of the field and from the sky came paratroopers and bombers and you had to shoot them of course. If you let too many paratroopers land they would build a little tower and destroyed your canon. Pretty simple game, but really great.

3. Tetris
Tetris.

2. Super mario Bros. 3
The best platform game. Very very good level design, and just a lot of fun to play, still. An enormous variety of levels, secrets, enemies, sometimes easy, also really challenging at times.

1. Indiana Jones and the fate of atlantis
The best adventure game ever made. The dialogues were fucking amazing, and there were just so many different places to visit and things to do. Like interrupting a seance by imitating a ghost or feeding bratwurst to nazi's. And it was a HUGE game also. I wonder if anyone ever finished it without looking at a walkthrough.

Now, discuss my list or mention your own favorites or even make a list yourself, or something.

KoR, I agree with all of those apart from the Mario games. They are undoubtebly classics but I haven't played them very much when they came out (apart from the gameboy titles) so I can't rank them as my favourites[/i].

I've played Paratrooper to death :D

I'd add Monkey Island, Nemesis 2 (Gradius 2), Knightmare, Kings Valley, Ghostbusters, River Raid, Prince of Persia, Leisure Suit Larry, Space Quest (III in particular), Sonic, Altered Beast etc etc etc :)

10-Animal Crossing

A really fun game where you do jobs and favours for others. You also get cool furniture and clothes for your house. You also can find fossils, collect bugs and fish for fish. There are holidays and special events. Nothing beats making a snowman with a tiny body and an incredible huge head. You also could get NES games (Balloon Fight, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Donkey Kong 3, Donkey Kong Jr. Math, Clu Clu Land, Clu Clu Land D, Excite Bike, Wario Woods, Baseball, Futbol (Soccer), Tennis, Punch-Out (but not with Mike Tyson), Pinball, Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros.*, Legend of Zelda*, and Ice Climbers. It does get a bit boring after awhile.

*Only available legally in Japan. Not available to get legally, as far as I know, in the U.S. and Europe.

9-PaRappa the Rapper

I loved the zaniness of the game. What better than forced to rap so you can go to the bathroom. Sick...real sick.

8-Shenmue (Dreamcast)

This game was loads of fun. Playing old Sega games was a nice addition. However, I just enjoyed walking around for the day. I still haven't played the second. This felt too short though.

7-Hook (NES)

Not a very popular game, but it was one of my first games. I was a big Hook fan and this game was loads of fun. I still can't beat it.

6-Astyanax (NES)

My second game ever. The music was great and the monsters rocked (Caesar was great). You are Astyanax and you must save Princess Rosebud from the evil Blackthorne or whatever. Pretty basic platform game. Quite challenging bosses too.

5-Bram Stoker's Dracula (SNES)

The music for this game is very good. It's fun and very frightening. It losses it's edge near the end, but it's still always fun to play.

4-The Legend of Zelda

I finally beat the second part of this game a year or two ago. Loved looking for those hidden things.

3-Tecmo Super Bowl (NES)

The best American football game ever. Ever.

2-Final Fantasy 7

Big obsession with this when I was a teen. Vincent and Sephiroth are the best.

1-Super Mario Bros. 3

My first game, but not the first I played. I remember telling my father when I collected 50 lives. It took me a long time to beat World 7: Pipe Land. I usually warped passed it and went straight to World 8 from World 6. First Mario game I beat too...or maybe I beat Super Mario Bros. 2 USA first...Whatever.

oh god, Shenmue was my LIFE for a while there. i loved that game dearly. when i finished, i was really sad that it was over...and then i got Shenmue 2 for xbox! i haven't really started it yet though. i have to work occasionally and all.

Homsar
06-17-2005, 05:54 PM
I really don't want to buy an X-Box just for Shenmue 2. I thought about getting it for the Dreamcast, but haven't given it much thought. Collecting those little figurines became almost an obsession.

bram stoker's dracula is a good platformer. exciting soundtrack and nice dark graphics.

i've played and finished hook (on game gear), but I thought the other version was for the super nes. i liked it ok, but not really groundbreaking. and i thought it was a little easier. a lot easier than dracula.

also, a game i forgot, is adams family for the game gear. it was also available for the nes, but with much poorer graphics. its a bit different from normal platform games, and the adams family characters are pretty funny.

that's amazing. i mean, for instance the part with the balloon, my hair turned grey from that. or the giant maze.

but, i was pretty young when I played it I guess. maybe it's not as difficult as I thought it was back then. or, maybe you're a genius.

There are a few tracks in the Dracula game that I would just leave on loop all day and not get bored with it. For the majority of the music, it wasn't that embarassing stuff found in most early games...especially vampyre games.

Hook for NES was much different from Hook for SNES, but I don't know about the Game Gear version. Nothing groundbreaking either, but just loads of fun.

my list is really gonna be based on the time I spent playing them, and in chronological order. So I'm posting games that I spent a lot of time playing ;)

1. Wizard of War - C64
Music is killer. Here's a gif I almost used for my avatar a while back. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v491/tracky/Junk/new-14.gif)

2. California Games - C64
Competition was fierce betweens friends and family

3. SimCity - All systems
When I say all systems, I mean any SimCity is good. I still occasionally fire up SimCity 2000 and experiment with some bizzare plans

4. Deathtrack (http://www.pamedia.com/cpgames/deathtrack/)
Killer.

5. Street Fighter - SNES
Once again, competition was always fierce amongst my neighbourhood friends. We'd spend so much time playing this, and then we'd go in the pool or on the trampoline and act it all out :D (y)

6. Doom
Spawned my interest in modding and making games. Spawned my love of online gaming. 'nuf said.

7. Quake Series
Quake 1, you could look up and down, and there was slanted surfaces
Quake 2, had only on the N64, but did spend a lot of time playing against mates
Quake 3, played solid for a long time, especially q3f. Made some maps & mods.

8. Soldier of Fortune Series
I guess I'm just a sick mf sadist who likes seeing limbs blasted clear of bodies, brains splattered against walls and intestines falling out. Better I do it there than in real life ;) But that's not why I play these games, the online game play is tight. Don't play #1 anymore, still play #2 lots

9. Shit. I dun ran out of games. Special mention goes to Double Dragon

10. This space reserved for any other game I've ever played (y) Nothing has ever sucked. Oh except for that time I decided to fire up a snes barbie game.

ps. Fuck you sercombdjhiksjtghroih you cockbag. I'm sick of having to edit my posts cause the smilie are limited now.

but:

MGS 1, 2, 3 (ps1/ps2)
crash bandicoot 2 (ps1)
star wars (gameboy)
donkey kong (gameboy)

hmmm.. cant think at the moment, but my all time favourite game is Quake on pc. that game gave me nightmares but i loved them. i played doom and liked that but Quake was just the biggest boner for me.

it was the first online game i played - i can still remember how i won my first map (first to 45 frags and i was versing all my clan :D) ahhh memories!!

my favorite games would have to be (in no real oder, and no real number)

tetris - i used to kill anyone at this, and nobody coule touch me on columns on the sega

california games - i spent weeks trying to figure out all the hacky sack moves

sim city 2000 - allthough 3 and 4 are more impressive, i lovd this one som much and would build up a city till i couldnt physically get anything more in it. i once had a town with 90% of the residential area was those nifty space age things you only could get in the year 3000 or something

starcraft - i love the RTS genre, and this game just tops them all. i never got real good at the game, but i liked to think that i could put up a fight against mostly anyone

super mario world - the snes version, mainly because gram had it, and we spent forever trying to find all the secrets...i still don't think we beat it though

I've been meaning to play grim fandango for eons, I might get around to it some day :)

Also... things really started to get interesting with ISS Pro Evolution :)

I remember getting that on release day, calling a mate I'd been playing ISS 98 with for ages and saying the words: "I've got it!"

I went 'round to his place to play it that same evening :D

SYNDICATE! Ooooh, and the rest of the bullfrog games. Populous, all of the "theme" games (park, hospital).

Yeah, I used to play that hotrod game as well :) I played that so intensively that I found a bug in the game. If you bought a certain car, stripped it of everything (engine, transmission etc) you could sell it for whatever amount you wanted :D

Syndicate has held up extremely well, I was just playing it yesterday (again) and for a while was working on a syndicate themed map for sof2 (http://www.boodizm.net/images/screenshots/syndsof2.jpg) which is still kinda going, and has changed a bit since that pic. I really want to make a whole syndicate mod for sof2, where you can do the research, upgrade and drug yourself up, but in an FPS mutliplayer game, a bit like counter strike but not round based, more like CTF. It'll probably never happen cause it would take solid months for me alone.

Out Of This World/Another World!

Great call. Loved that game.

Oh for the record, one was the original US and/or Jap name and the other the european name as a game with the same name already existed :)

i used to play bubsy on SNES until my eyes bugged outta my head. that would be my all-time favourite game.

The first Bubsy was the best. The second was okay, but I felt it was too cheap...like a rushed product. Ah, the original Bubsy was indeed fun. Lots of memories. I loved it when he would pound on the TV screen seeing if anyone was home if you didn't move for a certain length.

First game I really played was Karateka, and we had a Galaga machine at my parents pub, so those two are in. (y)

In no order:
GTA San Andreas
WWF Smackdown(Ps1 style)
Time Crisis (My first job was at an arcade, and we got all the free games we could handle. I got so good at this I could beat it on one credit. Used to freak the Japanese kids out!)
Daytona 500 (Arcade)
Doom II (PC)
Goldeneye(N64)
Streetfighter 2(Any system, any time, preferably Hyper Fighting, I could school on this shit, double jump combos, roundhouse kick into tatsumakisenpukyaku!!!!)
Any of the T.Hawks/Thugs series. One night I got back from the pub mashed as fuck, and was playing T Hawk 2. I got the high score on Marseille, and then threw a roach across the room to my bud, and it went into an empty milk bottle! What a night!

Notable mentions to Shining Force 2, Chrono Trigger, and Mario 3.

oh god, Shenmue was my LIFE for a while there. i loved that game dearly. when i finished, i was really sad that it was over...and then i got Shenmue 2 for xbox! i haven't really started it yet though. i have to work occasionally and all.

I bought Shenmue 2 today for very cheap. It's very slow, is the first one like that? Does it get better?

The best game of all time, by the way, is Final Fantasy VII.

The Fifa games are shit, by the way. They are by far the easiest football games out there. You must be a real amature.

Pro Evolution Soccer 4 is, by far, the best football game on the market.

star wars (arcade) vector graphics have never been this much fun!
smash tv/total carnage (arcade) goodbye allowence
ikari warriors (arcade) oh yeah, i went there...
samurai showdown series (arcade) i mastered this game to no end, i even knew how to make hanzo disapear and turn everyone into dolls.
street fighter (with super squishy presure sensitive button!) (arcade) 'nuff said
narc (arcade) kill drugies!
mortal kombat (arcade) dude! he ripped his fuckin heart out!
tekken tag tournament (arcade) watch mr. smarmy arcade snob as i own your ass with eddy gordo and kuma :p [never underestimate the dregs in a game]

thrasher skate and destroy (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00001ZULA/103-1892757-9995025?v=glance) (ps) fuck a tony hawk game! i like the guy and all, but his games are wack. this game features a) a bangin old school soundtrack and b) a realistic learning curve and move list.
all the gta games (ps,ps2,psp) even back to gta1 i've been hooked on the open gameplay. aside from the outlandish violence this is still a revolutionary game in that you really decide the pacing of the game
ratchet and clank series of games (ps2) new crack™, big pretty explosions and weapons
katamari damacy (ps2,psp) words do not suffice
star wars arcade (arcade) like the new charlie and the chocolate factory this is a reinvention of the vector games, except i get to fight boba fett for his vette... ok i made up the very last part.
