That other thread got me thinking. Beastie Boys have the most consistently wonderful album covers--especially on the vinyl. I think that the Root Down EP is maybe my favorite Beasties' cover. They're all skinny-tied and look old school jazz with the colored boxes and all. Yauch particularly--with the crazy little beard and shades.

There are so many. It's one reason I buy the singles and EPs. :o

What do you think?

yeah, I know there was a poll with all the major releases and CYH won, but this is more inclusive

Love American Style has a super cover.

Mix Master Mikes cover for the singel Surprize Package is most outstanding. You would have to see the album cover in person. It is a bunch of pictures mixed together inside a big picture of planet earth. Very psychodelic. :D

I say they're all the best in their own ways. I know you're not asking that though, you're asking what's the best but I don't know, I can't pick. :p

- Licensed To Ill- most symbolic, and sneaky with the "Eat Me" thing. Yeah I caught that. :D

- Paul's Botique- most interesting to look at and has a vibe or feeling of New York sort of like the album if that makes sense.

- Check Your Head- best cover to show how they're feeling at the time, especially inside the cover how it has a collage of pictures and stuff. Very cool pictures. (y)

- Ill Communication- the best cover to make you go "huh? I don't get it!" and very spontanious just like all their other covers. I don't know what to say about that one because I don't get it. :D

- Hello Nasty- the coolest looking cover especially the inside, very clever.

- Sounds of Science Anthology- Funniest cover. :p

- TT5B- the most appropriate and fits with the album the best and very cool art work of New York.

Yeah, I always liked that one. Or else the Cookie Puss one, with old school logo and hand-holding frolicks. Come to think of it, they're holding hands AND the cover is pink. Hmmm.

Love American Style has a super cover.
That's a good one. I didn't get the LP until recently when I found it used. I just thought it was a flag or something until I saw it in person.

I like the ones like Shadrach that look older than they are.

Paul's Boutique in my book is the best album cover ever.

But, I like Check Your Head a lot too....

It's just an easter egg y'know. If you hold the Licensed To Ill album up to a mirror, there's like numbers on the plane on the album, and they spell 'eat me' backwards. Sneaky sneaky sneaky. :D

I don't believe that cd is a bootleg. I bought it in a major retail store in Houston years ago. I gave a very big sum of money for that thing. I believe it was an import.

No offence... but how can you say Paul's Boutique is the best cover??
Dont get me wrong... it is their best album, but the cover isnt great... its just a few shops.... HELLO NASTY is inventive and clever, also very cool, with the schematics on the inside and shit... it rocks, as does TT5B

Yeah I know that, but I just figured it out recently 'cause I'm a new fan. Well not that new since last year. I wasn't even close to being here in 1986, although I wish I would've grew up with them like the lucky older fans.

Yes it is a plain photo, but it gives more of a feel for what the albums about. Plus, its kinda cool that theres no writing on it, its plain and bare. Low-key, after LTI.

I'm not fond of Hello Nasty because the lyrics are hard to read on the LP version. Ditto for Ill Communication.

I forgot the Body Movin' LP -- the one that says it's a soundtrack of the "movie" (actually the video). It's got Mike D wearing the white wig and doing the funny horrified face when Yauch's head is cut off, except it looks like a cartoon. If that makes any sense. See Beatiemania if it doesn't make sense. I found it yesterday and left it out just for the cover.

I love Aglio e Olio cover. Its very simple and at the same time fucking awesome. That boy squeezing his head is the worst draw I have ever seen. But its still the greatest.

didn't paul's boutique get some photography award or something? i could be wrong, but i remember some boffins somewhere were impressed with that shot and the sleeve design.

they're all cool, different and go with each album superbly, although you could maybe say that with anything...i mean as soon as you see the cover to a good record, it feels right.

i liked the cover for TT5B and the general packaging, plus it's always cool with the sleeves which have the lyrics. i don't think you can be the proud owner of the 8 way fold out paul's boutique vinyl thingy and not say it looks fucking great though!
