Learn to Fly is my favorite song from them. I don't really know much else...

A good Summer album. The rock side is really fun, and the accoustic side is surprisingly deep. Not a masterpiece or anything, but it's more entertaining than most other releases.

I was all about the Foo 10 years ago. But I was 17 and it was all about RAWK back then anyway. Well, nevermind, no it wasn't.

That debut album was good and I reallly enjoyed seeing them live. I love that song......"The rain is here and you my dear, are still my friend....." where it's the same verse twice just one's slow and the other is superfast.

Anyway, I love acoustic guitar. Just give me Bradley Nowell with a six-string and forget everything else. Off-topic again.

I love everything on it!

Their 10th anniversary gig at Roswell was broadcasted live (http://guide.real.com/foofighters?rnd=1119210218734&has-player=true&flash-version=7.0&version=6.0.12.1059) yesterday (and if anybody can rip that off I'd be greatful to get a copy :D ).

"I'm not about, to blow it now,
For all the cows..."

Great song.

I haven't heard it yet. I'm gun shy about buying the CD because I've heard horror stories about the copyright protection making it difficult for some people to play.

I usually love their acoustic stuff best so I have high hopes.

FFs are a lot better live than on CD, so be sure to see them! (y)

I haven't really listened to it properly yet, but I found it quite a pleasant surprise that mr.Grohl has finally recorded a 'proper' version of Friend of a Friend. Although it doesn't sound that different from the one on the pocketwatch album.

I haven't listened to it, but in general, I feel "eh" about it.

I'm not impressed by the new song I heard.

I loved the Colour and the Shape. Everything else was just a bit above average.

I'm waiting for the death of the double album. Good God, I hate the double album.

There hasn't been a good FF album since Colour and the Shape. I like/love the first two. The others are middle of the road shit. I love the way he keeps on saying that 'this next album is our best ever, really proud blah blah blah', and then after its sold shitloads, he admits that he was lying and it was a big pile of shit all along. Nice one Dave. (y)

"In Your Honor" is fantastic.

They REALLY rock it out on the first disc and they REALLY mellow out on the last disc. The deep contrast of this is refreshing. (y)

Yeah, I have to say I was pissed off at Dave for now saying that One By One only had 4 good songs on it. It was true, of course. But it's not what he said at the time. I know with all the crap they went through, it was difficult to get anything out back then, but it was a big disappointment.

I'm still hoping I'll like this one. I don't expect much. A few great songs would make it worthwhile for me. And if they play some small venues, I'll be a happy camper. (On the other hand, if they only play big venues with Weezer, I'm probably finished with them.)

As far as how good the copy protection is read about it here (http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=54878&page=2&pp=20), starting near the bottom. Both discs in the double disc package are actually "DualDiscs". So the complaints may just be centering around the *CD* version and not these DualDisc ones.

There are also reviews of the surround mix on the dvd side of Disc #2 which actually uses the dvd-audio format & should also include a 5.1 Dolby Digital track for regular dvd players.

BTW: Is that documentary on Disc 1 any good?

Yeah, it wasn't their best, but it's nothing to be ashamed of. "In Your Honor" is a much better effort, I gotta say.

^^ What do you like about it? Everyone hates the album that came before it, and I hate Learn to Fly, but it has much better songs overall. From Stacked Actors to Aint It the Life--two of my favorite songs of theirs.

I bought a different dual disc (I think I had no choice because I couldn't find a regular CD) and it says "the audio side of this disc does not conform to CD specifications and therefore not all DVD and CD players will play the audio side of this disc". So what's the point of me buying a disc I might not be able to play? Will any store ever give me money back on an open disc that lives up to its crappy disclaimer? That disc worked in my computer but I haven't tried my car's CD player yet.

well, i'm still stickin' to my first post...i like the album.

and does anyone else
here think that "friend of a friend"
sorta remind you of nirvana's joint "something in the way"?
or is that just me?

The labels, especially Sony, I guess assume you want video bonus material so badly that you won't give a damn if some of your players won't play the CD side.

Supposedly the younger generation, say from 14-30 years old, can't stand to listen to music without some pictures to go with it.

Also according to reports, some music labels are incredibly desperate to sell more music in a physical form, so some hope the DualDisc will be their savior.

But what they don't seem to realize is that they would sell more CDs if the price wasn't so high AND the music was better......DUH.

I honestly don't know--that disclaimer could be very probably be used by a jerk manager to keep you from doing so. That non-conforming CD side is the main reason many of us audio geeks dislike that format so much. This is also why we were so happy that the Guero deluxe edition was a double disc package (that separate "dvd" is actually a dvd-audio disc).

Well Dave wrote that song when he met Kurt and Kris for the first time so they must've affected each other.

Now that I've listened to them back to back they are extremely similar!

I gotta agree. Their recent stuff is barely alternative anymore. It's got more of a pop rock sound going on. Dave's voice sounds whiney to me now. (n)

Ipod Issues (http://www.sunncomm.com/support/sonybmg/portabledevice.asp)

There is a huge discussion thread at the top of General Foo Discussion if you register for the board regarding the Copy Protection issue and then directly under it is the iPod bitching thread.

I didn't have a problem with ripping it onto iTunes but I made sure I had the most recent update to it before I tried.

The album is awesome. They aren't as alternative sounding, although the rock disc is HARD. "Best of You" isn't the best song on there by far. I'm partial to "DOA" and "Resolve". If you like old Foo check out "In Your Honor" or "Free Me".

The acoustic is very mellow. I really like "Miracle" and suprisingly, Taylor Hawkins singing "Cold Day in the Sun".

The site has been busy as hell. :)
