From today's NME (http://www.nme.com/news/112761.htm);

BILLY CORGAN has said he wants to reform SMASHING PUMPKINS.

The singer, who has completed work on his debut solo album ’TheFutureEmbrace’ has taken out a full page advert in the Chicago Tribune newspaper where he said “his heart” remains with his old band.

He wrote: “When I played the final Smashing Pumpkins show on the night of December 2, 2000, I walked off the stage believing that I was forever leaving a piece of my life behind. I naively tried to start a new band, but found that my heart wasn’t in it. I moved away to pursue a love that I once had but got lost. SO I moved back home to heal what was broken in me, and to my surprise I found what I was looking or. I found that my heart is in Chicago, and that my heart is in the Smashing Pumpkins.

”For a year now I have walked around with a secret, a secret I chose to keep. But now I want you to be among the first to know that I have made plans to renew and revive the Smashing Pumpkins. I want my band back, and my songs, and my dreams. In this desire I feel I have come home again.”

Don't do it Billy Corgan.

I loved SP but I'm dubious about reunions. Unless if it's an RATM reunion.

This is the best news I've read today. With the Pumpkins back, I can throw away my Killers album.

I'm with you there, although I did see them live so don't have a vested interest in them getting it back on.

He's only doing it because he knows he's wank on his own.

Damn! That's what I was going to say. Except of course I was going to say "shit" instead of "wank".

He did a blistering interview a while ago where he dished on Zwan in a really ugly way and said that he really loved the Smashing Pumpkins, they're beautiful people, he would do anything for them, etc. I guess he was buttering them up.

Oh, he also said that if they reunited, no one would be happy because they were never about making people happy. So maybe he was already laying the groundwork for a sucky CD.

dude, Billy, let it die. the last SP album was a horrendous mess and you know it. the one before it wasn't that great either. go set up used car dealerships and give it up.

i thought the zwan album was better than the last two pumpkins albums.

i haven't heard his soloalbum yet, but if he's saying stuff like this its got to mean that it sucks.

I only liked one of their albums, I think, and then I stopped liking it because I associated it with a guy I knew who got into me and knew I liked SP so he started loving them and nearly groupying for them and it was the beginning of some sick weirdness that still scares me to this day.

I do remember hearing some of his solo stuff and not liking it. Seemed like he was trying too hard or something.

I knew it! As much as I love the Pumpkins and was upset when they broke up, my friends and I had a bet going to see how long it would be before Billy got greddy and decided to reform the band. I had five years. :D

We can cry together. I don't think that's a reunion (and hence cry session) that'll ever happen, though.

Somehow, if you're to believe his lyrics, I think Zack would see that as too commercial. (I hold out hopes that they'll do something together as part of a bigger, humanitarian sort of effort. I think that's the only way we'll see them all together again.)

Where is that effin solo album. I post here lamenting its delay every few weeks.

If it means he's gonna get stuck into some serious rock, I'm all for it.

If it means that he's gonna keep making crap like 'adore' then he can go suck farts out of a dead seagull.

I knew half of the posts in here would be about how people hate Billy Corgan.

I didn't say Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins was shit.

I said Billy Corgan the solo artist is shit.

BG deserves lots of respect.

P.S. Corgan begins with C :/

There was a brief time in my younger days that I only listened to The Dead Milkmen's Big Lizard in my Backyard and SP's Siamese Dream.

P.S. If you still listen to SP, you're gay.

From NME (http://www.nme.com/news/112831.htm);

SMASHING PUMPKINS REUNION GETS CLOSER

SMASHING PUMPKINS are one step closer to reforming after drummer JIMMY CHAMBERLAIN said he’s up for reforming.

As previously reported on NME.COM, former Pumpkins singer Billy Corgan, who recently released his debut solo album ’TheFutureEmbrace’, took out a full page advert in the Chicago Tribune newspaper last week where he said “his heart” remains with his old band.

He added: “I want you to be among the first to know that I have made plans to renew and revive the Smashing Pumpkins. I want my band back, and my songs, and my dreams. In this desire I feel I have come home again.”

The band split in 2000 after the release of their final album ‘Machina’.

Chamberlain has now revealed that he too wants to get the group back together.

Speaking to the Tribune on Friday (June 24), the drummer said: “All I can say is that the Smashing Pumpkins are Billy, James (Iha - guitarist), myself and D'Arcy (Wretzky - bassist). In an ideal world, that's what it will end up being. The hope is that everybody will come to the table, but I can only speak for myself in saying that I’m in, and I'm excited."

Since the Pumpkins split, Corgan and Chamberlain have collaborated as members of the short-lived Zwan.

Chamberlain told the Tribune that he has not spoken to Wretzky since she left the band in 1999 though he does e-mail Iha and – although they have never discussed a reunion – he said: “I intend to reach out to him.”

He also said that he is unaware of whether Corgan has talked about reforming with the remaining members of the band, but does think the advertisement in the paper “opened the door” for a return.

According to MTV News, Chamberlain said: “It's still all very new, and I don't know if anybody really knows what's going on. We really haven't sat down at the table and figured out the nuts and bolts."
