View Full Version : Do you REALLY like Mike D?

I was thinking that many of you seem to favour MCA and Adrock over Mike D. I mean, it is commom knowledge that Mike has screwed over many a fan, and all the picture threads are more dedicated to the other two. Also you always mentioning MCA and Adrock more than Mike D, and Adrock said in an interview I read in Q that they didn't like Mike and Mike D confirmed that, but they could of been joking I suppose.
Anyway I'd be interested to hear your views to see if Mike D really is the unsung beastie.

I don't know about any of them screwing anyone over.
This morning, I had to do a double- and triple-take and an eventual hard stare on a guy who had Mike D.'s face. Especially the eyes. But not his hair. It was a weird thing to see.
There's a photo of Mike D. from when he was youngish and he looks exactly like my son did about a year or two ago. I tried and was able to pass that photo off as my son to people who know him very well, including some of his best friends.

^^^My oldest half brother looks sort of like Mike D did during the Ill Communication era.
Anyway, I don't like Mike D........ I LOVE MIKE D!!!! I sort of see what you mean though, kind of. I don't have a favorite Beastie Boy though, because without one then they wouldn't be the Beastie Boys ya know!!! Blah blah blah...

With the 'screwing over many a fan' I heard that he had been really annoyed when any fans tried to talk to him, and pretty much downright rude. As well as a tour being cancelled because he fell off his bike or something, but that was genuine probably I think it just pissed of a lot of people.

I've heard of Adam Horovitz screwing over a fan even, they all have their moments like any human being. People shouldn't take it so personal, but I don't know what I'd do in that situation. I would probably be to shy or something to go up to them in the first place which sucks.

Fuck, after doing what they've been doing for as long as they've been doing it, it's no wonder if one or all of them are rude to fans, prying or not.
I think if they're doing an appearance--one where they're there specifically to perform or talk to fans, then it's okay to approach them.
But you sometimes hear of people getting right up to them when they're eating or just being in their lives and that's got to suck. I'd probably be rude about it too even though I might not want to be.

The Q thing wasn't an interview, it was in Cash For Questions (readers ask funny questions and band gives funny answers). Beastie Boys were making fun and bullshitting with every response. As they usually do in interviews. Do you think the actor from the Equalizer molested Adrock too?
Most of the time when a fan posts here that he approached one of them in public, the fan self reports that the fan was acting like a total moron. I'd give those fans the cold shoulder too. They're completely into it and the audience on stage where it counts.
P.S. I worship Mike and the water he walks on.

Adam screwed over a fan? I must have details! :D
For reallio my home diggidy dee? I donno why I said that. Anyway, go here (http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=35984&highlight=cigarettes) and scroll down to the 7th post. It's pretty sad, but atleast he got to talk to Yauch! I'm sure Yauch has his moments too, you just hear about them less. But yeah, I'd do the same thing probably if some random person came up to me while I was just doing something personal, I mean people don't just have the right to envade personal space. But you never know what you would do in a certain situation unless you were in it ya know. By the way I think they're all FOINE!!! :D

I also don't know about any of them screwing a fan over. But I don't know much about the secret news out there.:D
Anyway, I'm sure that if I was secrewed over by them I'd feel sad and all at the time, but I'd eventually forget about it. As someone said "up there" we shouldn't take that so personally. I mean, if it doesn't happen in a regular basis. We do it many times but it's not reported in the news, so the rest of the world won't really care about that, but if it's the Beastie Boys...ahhh! I'm sure they're human beings and not androids like some of the celebrities. I don't even consider themselves as celebrities. They're just silly...ok, so what I was talking about? I'm lost.:pGOOD NIGHT, ARGENTINA!

I heart Mike. He played HFStival in 2001, he did a DJ set with Mix Master Mike from a transmissions tower in the middle of the stadium. We waited for him to come down after the concert, he didn't really talk to anyone and tried to get out as soon as possible. No autographs or anything. But it was like 12 at night and he looked exhausted. And I'm not complaining because I still got some great pix (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/QueenAdrock1/other/miked1.jpg) from when he had to take a bathroom break during Staind.
Oh yes, I staked out the tower. And it was worth it.

This is a good adrock story..
at the fairfax show last year...during the dog show..adrock was sitting in the front row no one was around him. After the dog show, he got up and walked towards the back when some fan came down the stairs and walked and stopped right in his path. If i was adrock i dunno what i woulda said to this guy, however what i did see and hear was..
The guy told adrock how much he has been inspired by him and how much he loves him, how much he looks up to him. While shaking hands, i heard adrock say "i appreciate that a lot, thank you very much"..(while smirking somewhat)
I thought that was cool of adrock to actually stand there and listen to him, besides saying excuse me or just walking around him.
Big props to him

:D:p That was cool. They have to deal with that a lot, but then again, they have chosen this life so they GOTTA DEAL with that in the best way they can, not that they are obliged to, but it's nice.
I hate to be a "fan", but thank Godness I don't act like one. If I ever saw one of them I'd never even ask for an autograph. I don't care much about autographs though. I hate to bother people. If I hate to bother people I hate, you can imagine people I love.:pBut it would be great to actually have a good look at them live!:)

This is the second one of your posts this week that made me think (y) (y) (y). The other one was in the fitness thread.
I don't get autographs either--don't really understand the appeal. But even if I did, I don't think I'd ask for one.
If they were at a sponsored event, I might observe the interactions between them and their fans.
But if one of them was just out having a walk or something, I would never, ever approach him. I might look twice if I could do it discreetly, otherwise, I wouldn't pursue any sort of contact.

I'm used to running into people who know me and I'm used to covering for the fact that I can't remember them.
I've run into several famous people and I'm so dense that each time I don't realize who they are. But I know that I know them, so I've locked eyes and smiled to cover for the fact that I can't remember who they are. And then there's this split second where I realize that I don't know the person but that he is famous, and I tend to just smile a little bigger and keep walking, and then he always gets a big look of relief on his face. The last time was the actor who played the main hobbit in LOTR--when I locked eyes with him at LAX he got a look of a hunted deer, and then when I did nothing but smile, he had this enormous look of relief on his face and then I rolled my eyes a little and he smiled and he sure was a cutie! It made me feel bad for the little guy.

With the 'screwing over many a fan' I heard that he had been really annoyed when any fans tried to talk to him, and pretty much downright rude. As well as a tour being cancelled because he fell off his bike or something, but that was genuine probably I think it just pissed of a lot of people.
(to everyone)
Ya i remember when that happened, it was during the Intergalactic tour and they were suppose to come to Erie. i was super excited. me and my bro were going to go see them, then he wrecked on his motorcycle and they had to cancle the rest. I was pissed and dissapointed and let down.
I mean WOW he "wrecked on his motorcycle", (probably a cratch rocket), its not like those things can go that fast, and when you wreck, its not like your completely unsafe and can only hope for the best. Its like how bad can you get hurt flying off a machine build for speed when it wrecks. I mean he only messed up half his face and had to were a big puffy white eye patch and broke his arm and colorbone, and probably had touble walking abe moving all together, but i mean common he should have sucked it up and gone out on stage and performed like the usual. Jeez shows how much he cares about his fans.
MIKE DIAMOND IS AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!! I like all the beastie boys, each for a different reason, at different times each one has been my favorite, first Mike then Adrock, then Mike, then MCA, now its pretty even. The more i learn about each one the more things i like about each, but i dont know them personally so i cant truely say. The point is there all great, and Mike is proabably more towards the top for me.

As far as that tour goes the fans should all be happy hes ok, everyone crashes on motorcylces over time, its ineveetable, i know lots of people with them and theyve all said that. I was pissed and sad that they didnt get to come to erie, considering that was one of the few times they would have, they havent been here after either. But my first thought wasnt even "man that sucks", it was "I hope hes ok", then "that sucks but at least hes ok".
I can umderstand people being mad, but anyone who holds that against him is selfish and has some major problems.
as far as them being famous and people coming up to them, there celebraties, they all have to deal with it and they should learn how. Its part of the territory, they should learn how to suck it up and even genually appreciate it. If i came up to them no matter were and said "im a huge fan i love you guys blah blah blah" which i probably would id expect them to be cool and happy about it and care.
ON the other hand, i can understand, it would get annoying and frustating and feel invading and like you cant be left alone, and im sure theres days were they cant deal with it and it get to them and dont act in the best manner and probably even rude. Even if that happens i wouldnt be like you guys suck i hate you, id understand and give them the benefit of the doubt and keep loving them.

Mike D is by far the funniest BBoy. Ever see that interview in Amsterdam where Mike says he found Ralph Lauren in his closet checking out his gear. Then the interviewer asked if Ralph used any in his next line of clothes. Mikes reply was "No....but he captured my scent in the polo cologne". Cracks me up!
Mike also had the best rhymes on TT5B.
