I've been invited to a midsummer party on Friday and they asked me to bring some records. I thought to make a couple of compilations of summertime tunes. The first one more mellow while you're eating or chilling afterwards, and one more dancey tunes to party to, sort of Undertones - Here comes the summer, maybe Walking on sunshine even. There's gonna be a few families with kids from 5 to 14 years and a few single ladies. There seems to be a shortage of single guys in here ;)
I thought I'll make it easier for myself asking you guys for help. Any suggestions?

If 'Summertime' isn't on your list you need to skip summer and move to Antarctica.

No offence guys but you suck!
I would've thought there's some real music fans here!
Only Rob has come up with something decent!
I asked the same question on another site and within three hours got more than a hundred really good suggestions from half a dozen people. And there's only 100 people on that forum! Now I know where to turn to when push comes to shove!
And Heiress, that is the ultimate summer song!

My favorite summer song is Hot in the City by Billy Idol.
And I can't stop listening to Dr. John's Gumbo since it got hot here. Don't know why.
bgrrlie, why don't you post your list from the other people. I'd love a summer playlist. :o

Here's the records I made. The last one is for my aunt, that's why there's so many same tracks on it, made it in five minutes, when she came over on the afternoon.
I had to consider what kind of people were there, but we never got to round to play the "party record", we went swimming instead! :D

Thanks B-grrrlie! Good stuff.
When I think of summer songs, I think of songs I used to play when I used to cruise around with my friends many years ago--instead of songs that have hot or summer in the title. So two big ones for me are Phil Collins' In the Air Tonight (which we played pre-Miami Vice :)) and the Nick Guilder song Stevie Nicks sang on (something about people out there turning music into gold).
