The Doors. I mean, no other punk band had such intellectual lyrics. Morrison was the last american poet.
Turbonegro's Ass Cobra.
Don't forget Rock For Light by Bad Brains (The Omega Sessions is pretty good too).
Govt Issue (the earlier the better)

Sick of It All's Scratch the Surface. Its an amazingly powerful album that has clever lyrics without being square, and the ferocity of the singer is unbelievable.

i used to be really into minus the bear's highly refined pirates album.
i've grown to hate the blood brothers' crimes album just because i hate what johnny whitney does to his voice on it. if you want to listen to the blood brothers, listen to 'march on electric children'. it's definately their best.

Locust Abortion Technician from the Butthole Surfers is one of my favourite hardcore punk albums. But if you listen to it too much, I'm pretty sure you'll get brain damage.

Yeah, Whitney's voice does get a little annoying, but the music is tight. Have you ever listened to NECK, Mel? If not, pick up SHOULD MY FIST EYE. It fucking rocks. \m/

I was more into thrash then and now. But hung out with alot of "punks" at that point of my life;small town and all~ we all got along. I was into the bands you mentioned that you don't want to hear anymore of +
Crumbsuckers and Ludichrist's "Immaculate Deception" were dynamite LP's
BTW Tommy Christ went on to form the band Scatterbrain~which were a whole different kettle of fish from punk but interesting, never the less
Notorious LOL had a thread about DRI back in January....I was banned at that time and couldn't comment but their 1st Lp was the tits as far as punk goes then they sort of crossed over into the thrash arena. If your in a downloading mood try "God is Broke"
Try finding anything Combat Core did back in the mid 80's. It's like a Gold seal approval rating if that's what you're looking for
