June 16, 2005-- Philadelphia police have issued a warrant for rapper Cassidy in connection to a murder of a 22-year-old man, according to published reports. The rapper is expected to turn himself into Philadelphia authorities on Friday morning.
The rapper, who has found major success with his "I'm A Hustla" is expected to be charged with conspiracy, weapons possession and homicide, according to MTV .com. On April 15, police say that Cassidy (Barry Reese) and a pair of cohorts shot at three other men after a verbal dispute took place behind a house in Cass' neighborhood in the northwest section of Philadelphia. MTV.com reports that Cassidy and his partners were armed with .45 and .40 caliber handguns, 9 mm pistols, AK47 assault rifles and 7.62 mm rifles and fired them on the men.
BET.com calls to Cassidy's reps were not returned on Thursday night.
When the alleged gunfight erupted, Desmond Hawkins, 22, was pronounced dead later at the hospital from gunshot wounds to the back. Two other men were admitted to the hospital for less serious gunshot injuries. Police do not believe that the men who were shot were armed.
Police are also seeking 23-year-old Abdul West, who is the alleged second gunman, and was with Cassidy. Another man is also sought in the murder.
Cassidy is prepping the June 28 release of I'm a Hustla and his single of the same name is receiving extreme play on television and radio.
