i was 6, i was watching tv with my older bro (some music channel) and 'intergalactic' came on. i was like hypnotised by the incredible sound, i loved it!
anyways, years later around when TT5B came out, i was thinking of music i liked, and all of a sudden i remembered that sound, that song, didn't know what it was called, so i watched MM for a while till it came on. sure enough it did. soon i was on my way getting more and more bboys songs.
that's my story what's yours?

Google search for a book title that happened to share the name with a Beasties song.
Read the lyrics.
Came here.
Got hooked on the band and then you people.

Which song?
bodhisattva vow
If you google "bodhisattva vow" a link to the BB lyrics appears in the results, just around the fold.
When I googled it originally (Spring 2004) the link to the lyrics was maybe third on the list in the results.

I just recently found out that I heard them for the first time when I was a year and a half...I went on a road trip with my grandma and uncle and I was screaming the whole time, and my uncle had the liscence to ill tape in his walkman, put it on my head..and I shut the hell up. But the first time I knew what I was listening to, Girls was playing on the radio..and then they played brass monkey and it was over.... I was hooked!

Oh, me and my cousins who lived with me would watch mtv every morning before going to school. The Sabotage video came up and I thought that they were really weird....which is why I like them!!! I didn't become a big fan until Hello Nasty though.

Ok the Weezman was 15 at the time....going on 16. I recorded videos that were on the MTV. I happen to get the first air play of "Fight for your Right...on MTV. I was just starting to go into High School. After seeing that video....i was like..."I want to hang out with those guys and party like them".
Well I bought my 1st fresh copy of Liscence to ILL. Took it to a weekend sleep over/house party. Changed my whole lifestyle, attitude, and outlook on hip-hop. Got laid too...hee hee!! No group has effected me since. But I see groups that follow there style...Gorillaz, Beck, Fun Lovin Criminals, the Roots, .......and a very, very taint-bit of Limp Biscuit and Kid Rock. Eminem has his moments...as far as originallity...and viscious flow...and Dre's beats help him out aLOT. Em couldn't f' with the beasties on his best...or there worst day.
Pauls Boutique....those were the experimental party days.....Check your Head was time to be a little more creative by going back to school.....Ill Communication was a settling down period....Hello Nasty, was hello wife.......TT5B....i still "freak a fukin' beat like the $hit was in a blender"!!!
Lets just put it this way fellow B-BOYS/B-GIRLies....my youngest son is named "ADAM".

And also Dec 2004!! Backstage VIP at the London Wembley!! Wow! met & shoke hands & chatted to MCA, Mix Master Mike, Alfredo (hes the man) Mike D!!!! MCA's wife & daughter!!! I could go on & on!!!! :D

my cousin let me borrow one of there cd's
Didnt finish this off. Anyway back in 98 my cousin had Hello Nasty, and I didnt know who they were. Anyway me and my brother were in his room listening to 3 MC's And One DJ, and Intergalactic, and he also had Body Movin Fat Boy Slim Remix playing as well, dunno where he had gotten it from. I asked him if I could borrow the cd and he let me. Went home listened to 3 MC and Intergalactic and Remote Control soooo many times. I saw Intergalactic on a music video show and I was like "so thats what they look like" I remember thinking "construction workers posing through a mall SiK". Anyway didnt listen to em between then at TT5B and when I saw the Triple Trouble video on TV I realised it was them, bought the album, got every other album etc etc etc. Havnt gotten SiK of em for over a year now. Im happy I discovered the Beastie's, Thanks Cuz

I knew about the Beastie Boys for awhile. But I didnt start to listen to them. Untill I found a tape somebody made layin on the ground. One side was labled Beastie Boys. So I took it home popped it in. Later I found out is was a copy they made of the album Licensed to Ill. Only thing was there version excluded the song Girls. I now have all the CDs. And there one of my favorite bands.

I had heard various songs without knowing who they were sung by, until last summer I saw Ch-Check It out in a music store and heard it being played, aswell as hearing it on the radio that sam eday. In the evening I decided to go onto this website and watched videos, finding a few songs I had heard a while before. I then got a copy of TT5B from my good friend Mantle and decided to ge ta ticket to the Glasgow gig of the pagaent tour in December.

The very first encounter I can recall was when I was about 3 or 4 years old in '88 or '89... I'm pretty sure it could've been '89 because that's when Paul's Boutique came out.My parents had cable and I knew my way around a television remote since the age of 2. Anyways, I was channel surfing, remember I'm just 4, and stumbed upon Mtv,... Ya know, when they used to show videos!!!
Anyways, I think it was one of their Spring Break shows or Summer Break shows because I remember the Beastie Boys being at the beach either being inerviewed for their new album or were guest VJ's, I have no idea I was just 4!!! But I've never forgot!! (y)

This is waaay long, and I doubt anybody's gonna read it but....
Ok ok ok ok, this is how I came across them for real now. It all starts way back when I was 6 years old a looong time ago, like about 9 years, and I saw the video Intergalactic. Damn, that video and their name really stuck out or something because I remembered them 8 years later when I saw the video for Check It Out. When I first saw the video for Ch-Check It Out I wasn't paying attention and I was sort of confused, I'm like who the hell is these dudes and who's who? Because they were like different people and it was just confusing the hell outta me and I couldn't understand what they were saying or talking about. Now I do though. But I was like, this video is so fucking annoying it comes on every other video! Then I read the thing you know where it says the name in the corner after and before the video it I was like, "Beastie Boys? They sound familiar!" and then I remember later at night I saw that Live from the 5 Boroughs thing on MTV where they play that game and I'm like "These dudes are funny! And hot!" and then I saw the 2 dolla bill thingie on MTV and I'm like "These guys are cool!....and sexy!" Then when I got on the internet I was just browsin and their name just popped in my head "Beastie Boys....hmm" So I searched and went to a whole bunch of sights, and finally I came to the official one and learned all about them and got jealous at how much the fans on here knew. And not even a week later the Just Blaze remix video came on Fuse while I was at my friend's house and her cousin Brandon was there and I'm like "Oh that's the Beastie Boys!" and Brandon says "Yeah, I got their new cd To The 5 Boroughs. Wanna listen to it?" and I'm like "Hell ya!" and I listened to it and liked it A LOT and I was like "Wow these dudes are awsome rappers!" and he burned the cd for me so I could listen to it til I got it myself, and I wanted the unedited version cuz he got his at WalMart. So I went to get all their cds 1 by 1 and loved em! And dats da story on how I came across this incredible group! :D

Yeah makes sense, that song was really popular when it came out. It's weird because they were everywhere and I liked them before I even knew who they were! So I was destined to be a fan or something! Yeah, for example, my dad had No Sleep Til Brooklyn for his alarm and I liked it, my Uncle played LTI all the time, I heard the song Sabotage alot on the radio and liked it, I was waiting in the car for my mom at a grocery store and I was listening to Brass Monkey on the radio and didn't know who they were but some dude next to me (which later became my boyfriend, but not no more) was like "Turn it up that's a good song." You know what I'm sayin? Just weird. Sorry, typed too much again. :o

I'm 27 years old and in 1989 my friends older brother had their newest album. I was listening to it and I think he came home with his girlfriend or something and wanted us (my friend and I) to get out of the house so he said I could have the tape.
I do remember at the time that I had heard them before but wasn't into them enough to realize who they were until I heard Paul's Boutique.
First time I ever officially "came across" them was one of the LTI songs, probably FFYR on MTV.

I came across this group in the 80's with Fight for your right video clip and liked them a lot, I had a very cool picture of the BBoys on my school agenda and on that same page there was a Bard grafitti I made cause I was wearing a Bard sweater I love that an friend from NY gave me during the holydays. That's fun cause I heard on the Howard Stern interview that 1 of them went to Bard college but I can't tell who's speaking( anybody know?)
Anyway, school ended and I totally forgot about them for 10 years. Until the day I met the drummer of my band and he brought some hip hop and acid jazz music and I said cool what’s that? It’s the Beastie boys!!!!! Wow! I said. It was the In sound from way out album, Ill communication, Root Down ep. Then I got all the other records Paul’s Boutique what a trip! and more, The GR Magazine, the Tibetan freedom concert, I definitely connected to the beastie world.

Something like that (y)
when i was 10 i remember hearing intergalactic and loving it. not long after that my family had an exchange student staying and she was obsessed with the beasties. we used 2 sit in her room & just chill listening to Hello Nasty
back when i was in primary school everyone knew fight for your right, but we just never knew who it was by...it wasn't until someone mentioned intergalactic & FFYR in the same sentence that i realised they were the same band
anyway, i forgot about them until i heard ch-check it out in mid 2004 & i remebered how much i loved listening to them when i was 10. so i went out & bought HN. i've been hooked on them ever since & seeing them at big day out this year was just the icing on the cake!!!
