Bllllloooody mahvelous.
A well-made bloody mary is a thing of great joy. I felt inspired to whip up a batch this morning as I was waiting for my quiche to cook and I am so glad I did.
But they are one of those things, where the recipe can vary. So, if you like me are a fan, tell me, what do you put in yours?
Mine this morning featured:
tomato juice, horseradish, ground celery, salt, pepper, worcesteshire sauce, lemon juice some vegetable broth, and since I didn't have any tabasco I made a paste with some dried chipotle chilies I had in the cabinet, which worked out very well and I think I will use again for this purpose.
I use Clamato instead of tomato juice - I believe they do this in Canada, which turns it into a Bloody Caesar instead of a Bloody Mary... a lot of vodka (1/2 glass), clamato, tabasco, worsteshire (sp?), horseradish...

Definitely something I have acquired a taste for. I thought they were nasty while I was in college, but now.....uuuuummmmm! I like to put some fresh ground black pepper, a bit of worchestire (sp?) and a sprinkle of Old Bay seasoning in mine.....if you're not from the east coast though, you may not know what old bay seasoning is, but it's delicious and we put it on steamed crabs....I think it has celery salt in it (that's what gives it the unique taste).

Honestly I don't think I could improve on that formula...slightly salivating now....the thing about me and the Bloody Mary is that unlike a caesar, they are strictly for Sunday's.....any other day of the week they would seem out of place.... ;)

slopping some clamato into a 3/4 full glass of beer is also a well loved passtime here

yep we call them "Blams"....that could be a canadian thing.....I think it's only good with watery domestic beers like molson or labatts products.... (y)

what does that taste like? i have always wondered, but never ventured into the wildside like that...
if clamato wasn't so bloody (haha, get it?) EXPENSIVE, i'd probably experiment a bit more, but i'd rather use it for the cocktail...

The clamato version souunds good, I will have to try that sometime. I dunno if they sell it over here in Ingullind tho; I've never looked, hmm. Might have to wait til I'm over in the US sometime.

1 part vodka, 3 parts spicy tomato juice, and a half spoonful of horseradish will do it for me...
but the extra stuff is also a nice bonus though...
as for the mixing with beer thing...the red eye is a nice mix to go with...
